Hi all,


Is it me or is anyone else having a phase where the client is cancelling.  I have had two last week and one so far this week.

All have been with me over 12 months and all sem to have good honest reasons why. they have all been happy and have written some fantastic referances.

Maybe they think xmas is looming, i dunno.

Any advice or words of comfort would be gratefully recieved!!

These things happen, nothing to worry about, people have all sorts of different reasons to change their minds. It does not necessarily mean that it is down to anything you have done, if that is what you are thinking. It could just be that they are worrying about their jobs or perhaps they feel they do not really need you at this time. Priorities change from day to day people can be fickle. Life is too short to be worrying about things and getting depressed, there is always another contract waiting around the corner. Shall I go on

No I haven't put a price increase in as I already pay my girls well over the min rate any way. To be honest I will be able to get away with it for at  lease another, so it's not that.

I guess everyone has these phases, because threre have been times when I have had to turn work down,

I'm still fully booked and looking for another member of staff, as some have are closing there accounts from the end of the month.

it does come in phases, the key is to not stop looking for more work and then it does not seem that bad of a loss, one thing to remember though, has any x member of staff stole them from you? I lost 5 jobs last year to an x member of staff, really good jobs worth over £300 per week!

also i allways tell my girls. " we need to clean the customers house so good, so that if things get tight with the family budget, and the couple are disscussing ways of saving money, when cleaning is mentioned as a possible saver, it shoud be dissmissed with a, we can't do with out the cleaners there doing a fantastic job" but if its just a clean the cleaning will be first to go. and with a poor excuse.

keep your chin up and don't take it personel, it happens to every one at some stage. kind regards Phil

Remember that winter is coming on and intrest rates are high.

We seem to lose the odd domestic job in the autumn but gain just as many, swings and roundabouts .

we have had 2  clients die on us this week, another gone into hospital  (nothing we did, honest) also another cancelled, all belonged to one team of cleaners, their hours have been cut in half, what can you do, cannot magic new clients for them over night, just hang on in there, it can change again overnight.

Even with my small businees it happens denise.  When my clients cancel it is usually due to cost cutting or a house move.  here in witney people don't seem to stay in their houses for more than 12 months at a time.  You'll always pick more up to replace what you've lost.  i always do but i suppose it's a bit more of a worry as you have staff to support and i only have me.

we clean hoilday homes have just been dropped by a agent because we would not drop our biggest house on our round(different agent not very friendly towards each other) have lost over half our business in 1 week stuck in the middle of a fued between the two companys, didnt think it would end up like this

You are better off out of it Jiffy, no solace I know, especially if you are going to suffer financially, but anybody who lets their personal feelings enter into their business decisions, is in my opinion, on a very slippery path, just hope that your T & C allowed you a decent notice period.

feel like give it all up going to push on with the office and commercial side. they have given us 1 months notice but feel like dropping them in it this friday changeover day by not cleaning the properties for the guests arriving not very professional i know but will make me feel great.

I think we all go through tough times, and yes its funny how it comes in stages  , ive had three cancel this week just through cutbacks(although one went bump) as mentioned above, the thing is not to stop looking for work but to continuously look for more even when you feel everything is going well and smooth, because the odds are you will hit a sticky patch through no fault of your own

Can imagine how you feel jiffy, but just because you have been treated badly, do not be tempted to respond to this setback in an unprofessional manner, you may get another bite at the cherry with this chap, sometime in the future.

You would also do well to remeber that your reputation for being fair and reasonable, as well as professional is money in the bank.
