Scotchgard Returns
« on: May 05, 2004, 09:36:37 pm »
I see 3M Scotchguard are back with a
new improved formula  which became  available in the Uk from the 1st May for around £67 + VAT for a US gallon.

As it's water based you will get a lot mileage out of a 5 litres.

I shall have to try some out ;)

Hi

This particular Scotchgard product is the US product for their market...
I understand that 3M are currently working on a water based product for the UK market but it isn't ready yet.

There is a new solvent based fabric protector for the UK which will be on the market soon

Cheers

This is water based and I was led to believe that it is for the UK market launched on the 1st May :-/

But where did you buy it?

The only official UK distributor for Scotchgard is in Manchester and I 'know' they don't have any water based carpet protector ...I was there a couple of weeks ago

Now fabric protector..maybe ;)

Cheers

Hi Guys

So you noticed the deliberate mistake ::)

I have to keep you oldies on your toes you know. ;D

Any way had to dash off last night to watch Chelsea (throw it away) so couldn't answer.

I've not bought any yet Derek but the company that contacted me assure me it's the one for the UK market and that they are the only suppliers of it in the UK.

All needs checking out don't you think.

What will be the difference between the Uk and US products and where will we be able to buy it from?

As the UK and European exclusive distributor for the Scotchgard Protector after-market products I was surprised at the announcement made in this section. We have been working closely with 3M (I used to work for them for 13 years) to develop and launch a new range of products for this market since 3M withdrew in May 2000.
They have been working to engineer a new range of products that do not have the problems of bioaccumulation and persisitence that the "old" product had.
Right now we are launching the new generation PM3862 - a spirit-based formulation of Scotchgard Protector for use on upholstery (not carpet). There is no water-based formulation available at present, though work is being done to rectify that. There is also no carpet product either for after-market applications.
I have asked 3M (St Paul USA, Bracknell UK and Antwerp Belgium) to clarify exactly which product is being imported into the UK from the US, and I'll share the reply when received.
If anyone has any experience or sample label information of the water-based product being advertised I will be happy to hear about it and share feedback with 3M.
If anyone has any questions about this subject I'll be happy to try and answer them.
Thanks for reading this far!

Go to

www.carpetextractor.co.uk

Scotchgard is on their site advertised as latest formula
from the US exclusive to them :-/ :-/ are you suggesting this is a 'moody' product and not the real thing OR is unsuitable for use in the UK, if so for what reasons?

When I first started carpet cleaning I worked exclusively on a machine just like that for a couple of months.
