Hydrogen peroxide little use
« on: September 28, 2006, 11:18:21 pm »

I need to sort out a red dye bleed into neutral on a rug and fringe, faint but looks bad.

Tried 9% peroxide on back to test but absolutely nothing after 6 hours. Heard about adding ammonia but  what else can I use.

Thanks

Hi Mike,
Make sure the stain is completely dry before you use the peroxide, you could try some red rx from prochem with the iron and damp towel method.
                            All the best

Hi

It's a turkish flatweave. There was a very dark/crimson red that has come out a couple of mm around a design it's fairly light, with patience I hope I can go round it and save the day.

Hi Mike,

Azo dyes will repond better to reduction rather than oxidation.  I presume that the dye you have on the move is an azo of some sort and if peroxide isnt touching it, i would tentatively try some sodium hydro sulphate with heat.

If the oxidation pathway hasnt done anything, then there is allways reduction.

Maybe worth a go, but i cannot say that i have ever tried it myself.

Well took a hairdrier to it with peroxide and still nothing at all. Is this redux stuff freely available?
