why ?
« on: September 28, 2006, 07:04:44 pm »
Here is a picture of my van after some mindless idiot had a go at it.

Both my vans were attacked but luckily the Transporter didnt come off too bad , The paint stripper just affected the laquer and did not damage the paint underneath.

I have not upset anyone, i have got no enemies and get on with everyone, It was only my vans attacked all the other vehicles in the street were left alone.

Anyway it is only money , just a minor hiccup.

It didnt look too good on my new job today , I bet it looked like the bodge it and scarper merchants had arrived ;D

I am about to buy a brand new van but this has put me off slightly now.

Sorry to see that Dave.  The difficult bit for me would be wondering if it was coincidence that just my vehicles were attacked or if it was genuinely random.  Pity there's a few idiots out there.  Hopefully he/she/they will get their comeuppance somehow.

were they parked together Dave?

what mindless idiots.

Do you think you were targetted?

Can you get a lockup garage near you to rent?

I’m really sorry to hear about your van Dave.

Unfortunately we live in a society where manners, courtesy and respect for people and their property are rapidly diminishing. >:(

Crime like this just gets logged as a statistic.  If the politicians, judges and magistrates actually used the laws and sentences that are already in place to protect us and our property, then the world would be a better place.

Unfortunately there are too many do-gooders that seem to be getting their voice heard and we all suffer as a consequence !!! >:(

Dave,

If BOTH your vans were targetted, and no other vehicles, then that strongly suggests someone has targetted you!

I'm afraid there's no other logical explanation for it.

If your vehicles were scratched; then that's down to some drunken idiot walking past after a night out; but using paint-stripper implies that a small degree of planning went into this attack.

What's your parking situation?

Can you park off-road beside your house?  If so; movement-sensitive security lights and a camera should prevent future problems; and they're pretty cheap and easy to install these days.

I suspect you can't though.  Could you use your allotment area as a base for your work?

Anyway, cowardly stuff like this really narks me.

You may not think you've upset anyone, but everytime you (we) take on a new job that had a previous window cleaner; we're potentially making a new enemy.

I'm fine about losing accounts to other window cleaners; it never upsets me; but some aren't; usually the 'thickos'.

Sorry about your vans Dave,
The first thing that sprung to my mind is the new big contract you won, there may have been a very bad looser?

If your thinking of security you can buy wireless cctv that can transmit pictures to about 100 meters, so if you van is with-in this range you can record on you home video on LP

Sorry to hear of this Dave.
I don't blame you being put-off buying a nice new one. :-\

I'd maybe hold out a bit longer and see if it was a one-off first.
Hope it's just a random thing though mate. :)

ps.....I did tell Tosh not to do it......

Did you get the contract via the FWC Dave?

That's bad news Dave.

Get a magnetic sign to go over the damaged paint and carry on as normal, then at least that way the culprit will know he's had little impact on your business.

Thanks for the support everyone.

It did cross my mind if i was singled out rather than an act of mindless vandalism, Both my vans were parked together out on the street giving good cover if people were up to no good, also the first thing that did cross my mind was the new contract first cleaned yesterday, you just cant help wondering or was it just coincedence.

I have been told this was paint stripper rather than brake fluid by the way the paint has bubbled, last year one of the neighbors rammed a wheelchair into my car and scratched it with some sharp object, the guy claims to be disabled but i have seen him mending his roof etc,
He does not like anyone parking near his house and has got to be the no 1 suspect.

Helen
My new contract was down to being in the right place at the right time and doing a 1st class job everytime, I just got6 noticed and asked to quote.

I also had a neighbor tell me what they thought today , they said although it annoys them for me to park outside there window but they would never stoop so low as to damage my vehicles,

Gutted for you dave , thats exactly the reason why i am always dubious about getting a newer van , this seems to be getting a real cut throat business we are in , have trodden on a few toes myself to date , but have met the other w/c's since winning the work and they have all been the win some lose some types , luckily for me .
As much as i love WFP i feel it will make all our lives that little bit more harder what with all the new starters coming in , and as you say there will always be the idiots amongst them , thats not to say there were no idiots before the WFP, I CAN THINK OF ONE , but we wont go into that !

Hopefully Dave , that persons anger has been vented now , lets hope thats the end of it , and remember , it could have been worse if petrol was involved .

Dave, Inspite of what your naighbour said it could well be a parking issue.
With so many cars on the road these days, someone may fell a bit peeved at you taking up two places. If this is the case, and you move the vans they have won, but what do you do?. Dai
