WFP v TRAD are you getting fed up of it?
« on: September 21, 2006, 07:38:34 pm »
Cards on the table people I for one am getting dismayed by the constant sniping and threads that start off as being either genuine questions asking for help or ones that start off being very informative degenerating into WFP versus Trad.

At the end of the day we are all window cleaners who hopefully take a great pride in the standard of our work. Both trad and WFP have their place and will continue to do so as long as there are windows to clean. Each require their own set of skills and will produce excellent results if used correctly and I believe that most here know that so why spoil this excellent forum with constant arguements?

Maybe its the pride in our own standards that is at the bottom of this issue. Perhaps that is a good thing because it does show that many here are passionate as I am about their businesses so of course it is natural to defend ones self if someone makes derogatory remarks about our methods. Passion is great in it's place but can cause problems.

I employ both methods where it is legal to do so and where appropriate. I am moving all of my ladder work over to WFP where possible. That is my choice and so far I am glad that I am for a few reasons. I won't list these because it will probably mean yet another degenerating thread.

I am investing very heavilly in my business at the moment to try to become future proof and have gleaned a lot of great information from here but having to troll through constant mine is better than yours is a little downheartening.

I have been in the industry for many years and I am still learning but I do have many years of hard earned experience to help me make well thought out decisions. I am a little concerned for the newcomers who inhabit this forum who may not be getting the right ideas etc so I would like to see all the WFP versus trad stuff die down a bit.

Well I have said my piece.  Happy window cleaning all however you do it.

Hi Etremeclean
I agree with you I cant understand why everyone gets so worked up over
the different methods of window cleaning.

In my opinion its a silly argument anyway because window cleaners still have to use all methods available.

We have five mobile teams that have WFP fitted in there vans. But every
single day each one of these teams will spend part of the day using
squeegees, scrims etc, as well as WFP.

So I just think its silly to keep arguing over the same thing again and again.

Cheer up mate. ;)

I've often felt the same way on this forum, trying to tune in to the minds of window cleaners around the country, to see if I've missed something in my training and experience.  from time to time I have ticked a few off, on here and on the chat section.  Some have probably got a mental image of me as a lunatic (perhaps correct ;D).  After blasting off at a few I have ended up deleting myself and removing me from the forum!  Well, I can't remove anyone else can I?
Check my Profile..I've actually been on here close to 18 months or so with posts into the thousands...sad I know!  I deleted it all about 5 times :P
Don't let it get to you, keep it in it's place, enjoy the interchange.  There are some really good, helpful folks on here, and everything else gives it a good edge.

Who is arguing, anyway?  You're the one arguing! ;D

As for me?  I think......I think I am!  Therefore...I am!......I think!

No ;D

Well that was short and sweet Groundhog.

I enjoy reading your posts. It takes all sorts to make this old world go around. Just one thing?  Do you prefer sunny days because they give you a better shadow to argue with?     Joking here by the way  ;D

Hi PJ

I am a happy enough chap really. I just needed to get that off my chest so to speak.

Mr Woods. Do you equip your vans with back packs?  My guys find them invaluable for the cant get a hose to type windows on commercial work. I,ve fitted each van out now with one. In fact I ordered them for the last 3 today. I got them for £199.00 each delivered already converted for WFP. Money very well spent in my opinion.

Hi Extremeclean
No we have never used the backpacks, the thing that worries me about
them is the weight of them when they are full of water. I feel that there
could be some manual handlig issues that could come back at you in the future.

Y'know it's always multi-millionaires who say, "money doesn't make you happy".

I think, if I had five vans and wfp crews working full time for me, I would think a lot of the issues discussed here are silly.  No disrespect meant, but to be honest I really wouldn't waste my time on a forum like this if I had that going for me.  I'd have more important things to do, and I'd let one of I disagreeistants share the odd comment of my wisdom from time to time, maybe.

We have a car dealer about 200 yards from here, he started selling used cars when I started w/c.  He now works long weekends only, he arrives in his helicopter or his new bentley or one of his mercs.  He has over 300 cars for sale, average price 12K.  Do you think he wants to waste his time listening to the likes of me arguing about my 3.5k vehicle with someone of equal experience to me?
Not unless I'm buying, even then, he'll exchange a minute or two and that is it!
I clean his windows, so I know.  I think you get my drift.

I take your point about the manual handling issues but I am sure that I am covered because each of my operatives goes through a manual handling course and I take highly qualified advice re manual handling and H&S issues regarding any new equipment I purchase. Used correctly the back pack is fine as far as I am aware but thanks for your input Mr Woods. I will double check this one out because you obviously have doubts.  I  like yourself I believe have to approach these things from the standpoint of an employer with all that goes with it.

The WFP verses Traditional is really getting boring.

That is all this forum seems to be lately WFP v Trad

I'm inclined to agree now, Paul.
I think there have been some lively threads on the differences, advantages, disadvantages.  If like me you use both methods then it is good to hear the truth, good and bad about both methods, it helps knowing the challenges others face.

What is now disappointing is that so many comments are just getting plain insulting.  No-one minds the odd bit of humour, after all it's only windowcleaning!  But why such a tirade of almost threats at times.  It only gives credence to the public opinion that window cleaners are low down the social/intellectual ladder.

Get back to a healthier exchange of ideas, and read other viewpoints a bit more objectively, I think.

I agree, especially in certain threads.

I just don't rise to the 'bait' anymore.
