I have been looking at the possibility of using an A-Board ( Pavement Board ) for advertising.


Your thoughts please.

Why not! Some people also add a leaflet holder to the side of the van etc. You could put one on your board? Gotta be worth a try.

Good idea. The block pavers use them, but obviously they are at a property for an extended period and leave a nice new driveway for people to see.

I have also thought about this as i need to warn people about my tm pipes from the van and currently use the little yellow warning sign. A before and after picture could be added to each side of the sign and as you said, a leaflet dispenser. It could be a bright colour to warn of the potential trip hazard.

Whilst i am at, i might make a full sized one and wear it aroud town advertising like the old sandwich men used to do.

I had a corex board made which I displayed whilst doing a job.  I returned a few days later to the same house with a rug I'd taken away for cleaning..

Got out the car and a big bloke said "Excuse me mate, I want to have a quiet word with you."

"Oh poo", I thought. "What's this bloke want? What have I done to upset him??"

"I have this sofa need cleaning. I saw your sign so I thought I'd ask you to do it" said the bloke.

"Phew!" Thought I.

So..signs certainly do work. Mine brought results the first time I used it!

I used: http://www.simple-signs-online.co.uk/ cheap, quick, design is free and they email you a proof before starting work. Not an 'A' board but useful to test the water and see if it brings results for you.

I do have a sign written van but the thought of pavement advertising may give another dimension. I often see them. I could place them near local / district shopping districts or any where I think they might gain a response?

The only thing I would say is that there are various planning laws to do with adverts.

For example, a contractor is allowed to put a sign outside a property he's actually working on, so long as it's within the boundary etc. However, you generally aren't allowed to stick it up where you are not working.

Various councils have a "no advertising" restriction in their car parks etc.

Whilst you probably won't experience any trouble whatsoever, it's worth finding out what the rules are in your area so you can get a rough idea of what you can get away with and what the excuse will be if you get challenged.

Steve , not to sure the type of abodes you clean!!!!!!!
but a fair number of properties I clean are a 100 yds up the drive and my van is not visable from the road, surly an  board will catch the eye of potential custys, and surly the more adverts you get out there the better, after all what have you got to loose!!!!
I was recently given a board that advertised " cash machine available here" by  a freind , a large robust board on springs, does not blow over, yet suprisingly light. am just getting my details printed to place on the board. as I have said the more people see your number the better

I think its a good idea, all advertising is good advertising.

Im getting some made up soon myself, so if anyone can suggest a good place?

I want mine as a warning sign for "trip hazard" on one side, and a bit of info and a leaflet box on the other. You need to have signs if you have your hoses crossing a public area anyway so may aswell make the most of it.

Well here is the final result.

£120 quid down the line.

Dont be too critical as it was designed by me.

Just to update you.

On the side of the board I have put a small leaflet holder with some small contact cards in.

The first day the board was sited on a road that enters a large supermarket (no contact cards.)

The second day in a local street shopping area (with contact cards ) nine cards were taken.

No call yet, but it is the weekend and its wet windy and not too nice.

I think I read you were planning to move to Norfolk.


The local Highways Dept regularly remove A Boards that obstruct walkways as this is a hazard for blind people.
