Telephone & Computer Cleaning
« on: September 15, 2006, 10:21:30 am »

I am hoping to include a telephone and computer cleaning service within my business. I was wondering if anyone could advise me the best way to price this service.

Would I simply charge per phone/computer. What about the keyboard and monitor, is this priced as complete or seperate items? What about timing the actual clean......?

Any help whether to the questions above or anything additional would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Many years ago i did this sort  of work for a company that specialised in just telephones & computers, once you get a working system it is very quick and easy to do. We used to do 100s in a day and thats maybe doing 5 or 6 sites within a 5 mile radius. I would say you can clean a computer & keyboard in 1 minute flat no problem and a telephone in 15 seconds. As for your pricing i would price everything individually.

Regards Rob.

I would suggest it would take longer than a minute just to undo the screws on the case, how did you do the tower and the keyboard in 60 seconds?

After the very childish replies you posted last night Bob, you still haven’t answered the question/comment, please tell the forum how you can clean a tower and keyboard in 60 seconds, companies that I know of will spend at least 15-20 minutes cleaning a keyboard and tower, this I must point out is just an external clean.

I have just got an office contract and plan to dust over the computer and keyboard as part of my £8 an hour clean. I think that setting up a business that focuses on computers and phones is an great idea.

A key issue here is whether or not you need specialist equipment/cleaning products to do this job?

ok, This is a bit specilised.

We offer this service, I would'nt say there is a great demand for it. You will also find it hard to win computer cleaning contracts. Its not like an office cleaning contract which are more abundant. Plus trust me here firms will clean a PC for £3.50 that the base unit and keyboard, mouse and monitor. Depends on quantity.

You may ask how do they do it for £3.50...well its quantity.. and larger companies spread the cost over several jobs.

Special equipment
For external cleans it easier... the keyboard should take around 15 minutes...however this will depend if the PC has been in an office environment or in a garage / workshop.

You need some keyboard brushes there of special shape and get in between the keys.

Base Unit / Tower

External clean will be around 10 minutes... these are fairly easy to wipe down.

Base Unit Internal clean

Can be very dirty... believe me the dust that builds up in these can be inch thick.. fans can be tedius to clean... as well as the circuit boards.

How will you clean those? You can't use a normal vacuum cleaner.... you to think about antistatic...

Static electricity is one of the most common causes for pc failure.... and just wearing an antistatic clip will not safice....

You need to either do 1 of 2 things or have both... purchase an antistatic vacuum cleaner...it costs around £300 - £400 depening on where you buy.

you could use an oil free mini air sprayer. To blow the dust out... but not always convenient... as you have to take the unit outside far too much dust to blow in an office trust me....

Cables .. mice with balls.
All cable to be cleaned, inside of mouse with the wheels get dirty...it amazing how many still use the old type mouse instead of optic.

CARD MACHINE...

You will need card wet wipes.

You could also offer EPOS (Electronic point of sale) cleaning ..thats a cash register to most of us.

Monitors

Exteral clean only...typicaly they can have stickers on.. pen marks... may even have pen marks on the TFT / LCD SCREEN becareful you will need special ink removing chemical for the screen so it does not damage the screen in anyway.

Big screen TVs

You could clean these but you will need a special applicator and spray ...which costs alot.

As for adding it on to a service that you only charge £8.00 an hour for well if you can do it go for it... but I would not include that as aprt of the hourly charge..

if you have to employ staff they will be rushed of their feet... if they have to do the computers as well as standard office cleaning.

Plus Insurance

Your standard cleaning insurance wont cover you..... on this type of work...

Is it just PCs you are cleaning what about Servers im talking big talking big servers like Blade Servers... they cost £1000's of pounds...

Also what if after you clean a PC, what if it does not turn on again or a system failure.., can you replace a HD (HARD DRIVE), DATA DRIVE ...
Was it your fault or did the pc have a fault to begin with... how will you deal with this...with the client.

Just something to think about

I hope this helps....

Hi Rob,

Im not saying your not telling the truth here... but ive cleaned pcs for years, I am also Microsoft certified.. and was in the IT indusrty for over 10 years..

there is no way you can clean a base unit and keyboard on 60 seconds... if done correctly. I would say that it is possible to clean around 30 pcs external clean only a day and 12 maybe more pc for internal and external cleans.. if donr correctly. On a daily basis.

There is a difference in quality of work... I have seen the companies that take 5 minutes per machine and there work is awful.

I would have a competition with any one of those... and let a customer decide which clean he or she prefers.

Infact i will clean the machine you have cleaned... and you will see the difference.
