Following on from my other thread, I would like to ask if any of you have cleaned anything like this porch before? (Click on it to enlarge it)





As you can see the roof, is going to be difficult to get to, due to the distance between the glass and the girder. Will hopefully being using wfp, but not sure how I'm going to get the brush in there!

Also, the roof goes right back to the glass of the window, therefore restricting access to part of the window. I'm thinking that I may have to, use steps and a squeegee to get in there. Any suggestions?

simbag - the only way I can see to clean that is to stand on a platform in front of the roof and wfp the handful of panes closest to the roof.  The rest will be accessable from he ground.

Yep that's how I see it too. A small scaffold tower coud be easily tied off to the arched beams too. Dai

unless you could get scaffold boards on the arch then stand on those to wfp top ones ??

Cheers guys, many thanks for your advice. I am thinking that the small scaffold option will probably need to be used. I was looking at a couple of step ladders that could be utilised earlier, as I don't currently have anything I could use. What do you think?

I really like the Little Giant, it looks extremely versatile if a little expensive. If you watch the little video they have there, it explains all that it can do.

I'm still unsure how to reach the window at the back, as there is a distance of about a foot from the top of the girder to the glass of the roof. This has to be cleaned, as it is all totally visible from inside. I was thinking that I could maybe get an 18" squeegee behind there, but I've no idea how I could actually scrub the glass first.

Any more pearls of wisdom?

Simbag its a totally inexperianced answer as I have never done commercial properties, but if you have a tower and you think you can get a squeege in there then why wouldnt an applicator on a pole be able to wash the glass? if you use just pure water on it you would then only need to rinse the glass I would have thought.

Hi Chris,

That is a possibility, however if you look at the last pic, that distance between the glass and the window, is an inch at the very most. Therefore, combined with the distance from the front of the window and the girder obstructing the access, makes it more difficult. If that roof was further away from the window, I would be able to slide a applicator up there. I'm once I'm there I'll suss it out, I'm just trying to think ahead though! Cheers

What is wrong with placing a ladder at the front (tie off using the girder if no footing available) and then use your pole to get to the last 3ft above the canopy.

Thats what we do on several commercial buildings.

Remember, WFP is just a tool to be used with all your other tools i.e. ladders?
