I like them. Dont last long but cheap and light as a feather. Use them with a Vikan head.

You can hold them at arm length and stretch all over the place to reach awkward windows without doing your back in.

I m definately quicker with an excel so I reckon that makes up for the fact that they dont last long.

The first pole I had was excel and I ran it into the ground in about 6 months. Then I changed to CF which is still going strong after a year. But now I m back to Excel.

I have a 24 foot Universal aswell but for my every house I think I m going to stick to Excel from now on.

Cheers Archy, i was looking at getting an 18ft residential one as theyre supposed to nice and light, the pole i,m using at the moment is an 18foot aluminium one and though its nice and light i,m just p####d off with getting black hands of it all the time, i look more like a mechanic than a window cleaner when i get home so i,m going to change it.

My excel is 3x4. It is a bit short. My original was 18ft but I found it to long for round to sides when there is not much space.

I reckon the next pole I will get will a 3x5 excel but I not sure if anyone does them.

Ronaldo,

We have had two Brodex CF poles, both lasted about 18 months each.  Nice to use but a little expensive.

We have just started using a 21ft excel  pole which we were told should last us 12 months with everyday use.

They are light and fairly easy to use with not  much 'whipping'.

Ours cost £99 plus Vat from Concept O2 but I know www.windowcleaningwarehouse.co.uk does them too.

They come complete with a vikan brush.

If you are going for an 18' excel pole. I would recommened you put a Gazza brush on the end. Because the brush is a lot lighter then a vikan it will stop the wipping effect that you get with a vikan brush on the end. The vikan brush is a lot heavier and when you clean any window thats at an awkward angle to the side the weight of the vikan brush causes the pole to bend dramatically, which in turn puts a lot of extra pressure on your arms.

With a Gazza brush on the end an 18' extender pole is the best pole you will ever buy. I have 3 x 18' poles in the van at all times. One is a gardiner unuiversal glass fibre pole with metal gooseneck with a vikan brush on, its the least used due to its weight, it gathers dust mainly but is in the van in case the other poles break. The other pole is an 18' gardiner resedential pole with a Gazza brush on the end. But the pole of choice by my son and I is the 18' extender pole, it is so light its untrue and with a gazza brush on its fantastic to use. Any wipping effect is negated due to the lightness of the brush.

The other benefit with a Gazza brush is you you get a small extension on the brush which gives the brush more reach over sills. Plus you can leave the brush on the glass to rinse which you cant with a vikan brush. I have used the exel pole for 9 months constantly, it should last me to the end of the year, I will then just buy another one.

Ronaldo.

I have put this link below. You get an 18' extender pole with a double trim 12" monofillament brush for £96.11 delivered incl vat. The 12" brush looks the same as a salmon brush that Gazza sells. I think I will order one myself.

Hope this helps.

Hi Neil,

I also liked the look of the double trim brush on the site and thought it would good if we stocked them as an option on our poles. That was until I tried a sample on one of our poles for a day!  We will not be stocking them now, they look great until you use them. Being double trim only the bristles around the edge come into play most of the time, and there is not enough of these edge brushes to clean the glass properly, you find the brush missing stripes on the window. The only way around this is either to scrub the window twice as much or push really hard (and you have to) to bring the inner section of shorter bristles into play.

On a 1 and a 1/4 hour job yesterday it took me 10mins longer using this brush on just the downstairs section.

Hi alexg,

Could you please answer a question that I have, what is the correct method of using poles,

would you recommend rinsing brush on or off?

Look Foward to your reply,

Regards
Alex

Hi Pro-Pole,

I can give you my answer!

Logic tells you the only correct way has to be to rinse off the glass.

You may well be able to 'get away' with rinsing on the glass but whatever brush you use this will not ultimately be as reliable as rinsing off the glass.

A compromise on high level work that we use to save strain is to tilt the brush onto one side and let the glass take the strain.

Anyone who cleans near the sea or other high dirt areas will know from experience that 'off the glass' is the only way.

--this is only my opinion--

Intresting Thoughts Alex,

When is your lightweight brush going to be for sale?

What make is it?

Any chance of you posting a picture of it?

How have you gone on testing it?

Regards Neil.

imho also

the only way is to lift off, afterall when you leave the brush on, the final place you remove the brush you could leave bits behind

Hi Neil,

we are now offering the lightweight brush for sale, it is an option on our residential poles.

We have only positive feedback whilst trialling it. It looks very boring and 'ordinary' but is very light and scrubs the windows with ease, I have now fitted them to most of my poles.

It will no doubt need replacing more often due to bristle strengh but you cant have everything!

They will simply screw on to a standard plastic adjustable gooseneck or on to our latest design aluminium gooseneck.
