Taxing Workers
« on: September 04, 2006, 10:28:03 am »
I have started running a payroll and my workers work part-time roughly between 6-10 hours a week but they also have other jobs.  Do I have to take tax out of their pay?

Grateful for your views.

Thanks.

Hi,
If i was you id give Inland Revenue a ring for free advice on this one as im sure the employee has to let the tax office now how many and what jobs they have and then they are taxed on the highest earning job.
Better check though.  :)
Cleaning gets me hot !!!

Thanks, I have just contacted the tax office and they suggested that I tax a flat rate of 22% in the first instance and that the employee should let them know if they think they are paying too much.

Thanks again.

Get the tax office to send you some P46's then get your staff to fill them out and you will know what tax code to put them on - if they have a current P45 that will also tell you the tax code they are on.

If you don't get a P46 or a P45 always put them on BR - the tax office will notify you of any changes in tax code.

Hope this helps some

Here you go Abi,

click on this link:

print em off, you should always get an employee to fill one in b4 you pay them if they dont give you a P45.

The link is very useful and I use that service when I have too, (I also do my end of yr and PAYE on line) but I am such a skinny flint that I refuse to pay for all the ink and paper to print tham when the IR will send you them free!

Nothing to do on Saturday evening, so just browing past postings (Sad B*****D) I hear you all cry. Black cat, my soul mate, or should that be cell mate, is sitting on the desk contemplating a night out with the girls, hence no sleep tonight for us humans. Anyway, where are we, or was I, or you, or whomever, oh what the hell, life is not making much sense anyway. Ah tax! You live, you die and be assurred you pay tax! (Who said that?)

The ultimate responsibilty rests with the member of staff. If they inform the tax office that they have two or three or even four employers  the tax offioce will issue a tax notification to the predominant employer. You shoukd continue to deduct tax at the basic rate, given that most if not all of the employees tax free income will be offset against their prime employment. Does that make sense, it did before a had another glass of carrot and current juice with a large glass of Glen Morange chaser.

Problems; HMRC - web page or General Enquiries for your area, or the tax office you are registered with. They are nice people, honestly. I once took one of the young ladies out for a meal. I made sure it was at night, the restaurant had a table in a dark corners and nobody knew me! But I arrived home without the mandatory fang marks to the neck. And she enjoyed herself, I think. Well she was laughing as got out of the car, saying that there was nothing between us. ! Unkind.

Happy Rammadan to all our friends who follow Islam - Salaam Alaikum.
