Extracta Scrubber advice!
« on: August 31, 2006, 11:19:12 am »
Hi all

I had a leakage from my Extracta Scrubber a few weeks ago so I only just managed to get it in the workshop at Extracta for the guys to look at.

I got the problem fixed but John asked me when was the last time i filled the scrubber up with oil. To be honest I didn't know what he was on about!! I had absolutely no idea you had to fill it up. He said the machine needed to be topped up once a year with 3 in 1 oil. My scrubber was quite loud, the reason being it had no oil in it!

Apparently I wasnt the only one who was oblivious to this. He said some of the other Extracta customers didn't know either. He also went on to say it tells you in the manual to do this.

So the moral of the story is if you do have one of these great machines make sure it has oil in or it could be an expensive mistake!

Its just a few drops of oil in the bearing pillar blocks, theres a hole in each one for this.

you can upgrade the valve if you wish but they work great with the old type valve system.

so really no mods need to be done.

Thanks mate,
I should be getting a new t/m in the next couple weeks, and wanted to keep my scrubba tool, and also my Extracta handtool.

Iv heard a couple of people have tried using the handtool and had problems though.

Anyone care to share what it was that give way, the valves or the hose?

Glad to see you are seeing the benefits of a tm. I have had min'e for 13 months and like you i had an Excel and scrubber and initially though about converting it but as i do mainly domestics, i didn't bother and also you will get improved cleaning with the heat anyway.

When i did try to use the hide a hose hand tools, the feed pipe to the jet block just burst. I am not saying that it was just the tm's pressure of 350 psi that did this as it was used a lot beforehand, but i think it would eventually happen anyway.

With the Extracta hide a hose tools they block sometimes and i was forever ramming wire or something down the pipe to hook out the fluff from stair carpets which hooks around the solution pipe.

You will appreciate a prochem hide a hose tool as they can be taken apart in seconds to clean etc and the internal solution pipe can be uncoupled. A great hand tool and useful for confined spaces.

Good luck with your new machine.

p.s. what ever happened to the cc from essex who run his portable from his Daihatsu van? We used to have some good banter with him when discussing tm's.

He popped his head in the other week, i do miss Garys posts.

I get the same problem with the fluff, but just pull it out with my finger, takes seconds.

I snagged the hose on my handtool a few months ago, and got Alltec to replace it for me, and they stuck a 300psi one in there so im wondering if i might get away with it with the t/m.

Worried about valve though.

What pressure do you clean at Dave?

Also did you change chems when changing machine?

Have to agree about the window and brush on their tools. The prochem blazers minimum psi is 350 so this is what i usually clean at. I do change chemicals but i do not keep filling metering jug on the job.

To explain, as you probably know, the tm has a metering jug which you make up the concentrate in. Because i was doing a lot of rental properties i have a 5 gallon one with say prochem's fibresafe gold for the wool carpets, and then i have another 5 gallon with prochem double clean in and i also utilised a few old sprayer bottles to mix up a gallon and a half of another product.

All i do is pull out the pipes and flush them through with water then just push into the next container. It takes seconds. Hope this helps. I carry a five gallon container in the back though to make up any presprays though on the job.

The Scrubba hose/feed line doesn't need changing but like whats been siad on the hideahose hand tools it does need changing otherwise it will burst very quick. Personally I dont like extractas valves but prefer them over the clamp ons.

Dave,
try using chemspec liquid formula 90 in your t/m. At the low chem meter setting it is woolsafe approved. Just turn the chem metering up higher for the trashed jobs. Saves messing around with different chems.
Cheers
Chris

ps Is that right, the blazer min psi is 350psi  ???

Thank's for the advice i will try chemspec. The blazers minimum pressure is 350 psi up to 1000 psi. You can get it to run lower by dismantling the pressure assembly and taking out one of the spring retainers. This will give you about 100 psi, but i don't know whether at this pressure the chemical metering will work properly.

Apart from this, i have found the machine o be a very good and robust unit. At the time of purchase i considered a higher spec tm but for what i do, it's been okay.
