What does your Supervisor do?
« on: August 31, 2006, 10:17:56 am »
HI all,

I'mat the stage now where I need some support and to delegate some responsibilty.

As I'm in the domestic market, I think this post is aimed at people in this area of the market.

Can anyone advise me on what they expect their supervisors to do, do they pay them a set wages or hourly rate, have company phone etc, etc.

I have a cleaner who will be able to fulfill this role without any problem, she runs the company while I'm away, but obvouisly I need to put a job description together and rate of pay, etc,etc...

Thanks for you help

Regards

Hi Denise,

I have a supervisor that goes round on a rota checking our contracts, i make sure she checks every contract at least once a month, well that was the initial idea!, its more a case of covering holidays at the moment but she has been a godsend enabling me to get on with marketing the business further etc, she as her own car and i pay her an hourly rate that covers her petrol, she also has her own mobile and then gives me the receipts.

Chris

I don't know how much of a 'premium' you pay your supervisor to cover the cost of petrol but a shrewd employee might notice that they are taxed on this amount whereas if they claimed for actual mileage use it would be a legitimate business expense and the IR rate also reflects the fact that it covers wear & tear etc on the vehicle.

My problem at the moment is a reluctance to let go ....... nobody else can do anything as good as me!

Plus I haven't found anybody who is either capable/willing

Hi mick

She is only part time doing 2 hours a day which alters according to where any problem may arise, the lady in question is paid a premium indeed!(lets just say very well paid) and a friend over over 15 years, believe me mick you just have to let go sometime ;)

I have 2 ladies they job share, they do eveything from fill in cleaner to day to day administration work , I pay them enough to cover their petrol, and they use a company mobile, we only work in a five mile or so radius because of our location, they both have children it seems to work out Ok although one of them took an extended summer holiday but the other one filled in. This way we  never let a client down, there is alway someone on the end of the phone if customer or cleaner needs us, its not cheap, but its better than struggling on your own to do it all.
