Which way round .... I cant decide
« on: August 30, 2006, 05:36:09 pm »
I'm having the new tank permenantly fitted in the van tomorrow but still dont know which way round to have it , Ive tried it bothways , which way should the baffles go?

You decide

Baffles front to rear or side to side?

Put it in as you have in your second picture. That way the baffles will work to slow down  the water rushing forward when you brake.
It's a game of three halves!

Surely you should be just as worried about side to side movement of water, ie going round a corner would not the risk of losing control be more with the water sloshing from side to side than the effect of the water going front to back?

I guess we need baffles for both directions  :D  :D

Water sloshing from side to side isn't generally nearly as dangerous as the sudden stop from a collision bringing your speed to zero in just your vehicle's crumple zone.

I personally am concerned more about side to side movement this is why I cant decide which way is best
I can see both points of view but still dont know

Liquid Tankers have there baffles to stop the forward and backwards motion of fuel, it serves to help the breaking Efficiency  of your vehicle.

I was told by a supplier that It does'nt matter which way round It goes.

I have mine going across so the baffles don't really come Into effect. But then again It's only a 250L lay flat tank. If I got a bigger one I would turn It around to get the benifit of the baffs!

Were talking of liquid and motion not quantity, if the quantity wasn't so important, then why has  the manufactures fitted baffles to your Tank?? if you are still so unsure then get intouch with the manufacturer.

The baffles should be perpendicular to the direction of travel. ie side to side.

Maybe a supplier can comment ! ! ! ! !

Have you phoned the tank supplier ?

Chris it,s also fitted the other way round yo your pic , with the filler cap at the back and the hose outlet at the front, so if there is any probs with leaks from the outlet i can easly get to it.

Jeff

in the 1st pic The outlet is right by the side door and I have up untill today had the tank with the outletat the rear but today ran out fo water with 75ltrs still in the tank because the van is higher at the rear so all the water lies at the front so I turned it around, thats why im now concidering having the tank sideways

the force of the water moving side to side will not be as great as the moment of force of the water travelling forward and back (due to higher forces involved in braking etcthan cornering - well unless you'rre michael schumacher) so therefore the tank would be better suited to being front to back as in the second picture.
