CIS !!
« on: August 30, 2006, 12:15:04 pm »
Hi all

Has anyone had any phone calls etc from a company called CIS ?

Just got off phone to a woman who claims that she is privvy to a number of largish companies that are re-locating to my area and who have instructed CIS to find 2 cleaning companies to put tenders in for their cleaning requirements. She reckons that by Oct/Nov she can put me in contact with 10 referals per month so 120 in total by this time next year etc etc and all for about £450 per year !!
To get her off the phone (and partly cos I'm curious) I've agreed to meet one of their reps this Friday for a no obligation chat to see examples of these so called companies and to grill her a bit more about their services etc.

I've tried looking on the web for them but can't find anything about them so was wondering if any of you has had any dealings with them ? Is it a scam ?

Thanks for your time

Richy

Hi,

I subscribe to their service. Basically they issue you with details of relevant planning applications in your area. They guarantee to send you at least ten applications a month.

Makes quite interesting reading and takes the hard work out of scouring round council offices for planning applications. Saying that, I have as yet not approached any of these contacts as we have enough work already. If you want more work it's not a bad way of getting early notice of big housing and construction developments if you are persuing build clean work.

Off the top off my head I think it cost us around £450 too (12 months subscription), they also state that they will only supply two companies in the same industry in one area.

Cheers,

Huw.

Lots of Councils now have planning applications on their Web Sites

If yours has not it will soon.

Spend Less time looking at Cleanitup. ;D ;D ;D

Not many people realise this but as a Council Tax payer, you can contact your local council & request a copy of the meetings of the Planning Dept, and a copy of the Planning Agenda that is issued monthly to your Councillors, be sent to you.  This is a free service.    I have received these for years....from all my local Council Departments.
So ,for your £420 a year, all they are doing is getting this free copy from the Council, disecting it a little & selling it onto firms.

Cheers Guys n' Gals

Think I'm gonna put my money elsewhere - too much negative feedback about them. I'm getting of these sort of calls now and am beginning to wise up to them.

That's a good bit of info from you Lizzy, I'll be onto my local council in the morning I think.
Am I also right in thinking that our local council hold a list of private landlords that I can request ?

most paperwork in Councils is now open for public scrutiny.    (excluding neighbour disputes & complaints).   Your defintely entitled to a list of private landlords.  they issue those openly to people looking for a rented house.

I make it my business to keep myself informed on local issues.
