How to get into builders cleans
«

I usually post in the window cleaning section
But now want to get into other cleaning
I have been doing some builders cleans for another cleaning company and taking my wife with me.
And to be honest we both enjoyed doing these.
Its pretty hard going on some plots but satisfiying once we finished.
I have an idea on pricing now we have done a few.
But the work on these properties have now finished so want to try and get some builders cleans work myself.
What i want to know is how do you go about getting builders cleans.
I was thinking of making a leaflet up and sending it to the show houses on all building sites i can find in about 20 radius.
I think its something i can do well with the wife as she rubbish at window cleaning but good at builders cleans.
And its all weather work unlike window cleaning we tend to get rained off every now and then.
I know about cis but have not got it yet as i want to make sure i can get the work first
An advise would be great

hi there
no good going through the showhomes
most developers, use their q s's to source, evaluate and then order everything from nails to sparkle cleans. so you need to make noises in that direction.
you then need to endure that al your paperwork is upto scratch, method statements, risk assessments etc. so that you can sumbit this on your tenders.

Hi Arthur
I have been doing some 4 and 5 bed town houses and they were priced at £220 and £240.
Didn't do a sparkle clean though as the cleaning company who got me to do the builders clean did those but i would think it would be half the price of the builders clean.
I got 75% for doing the builders cleans which was for another cleaning company.
and then i got the window cleaning at £150 for the 1st clean which did include a conservatory roof and £40 a clean twice weekly until sold.
Thankyou martin you have been a great help.
Method statement and risk assesments i have no problem with as i do these anyway on my window cleaning for commercial jobs.
Regards
Paul

To get put on an approved list of Contractors you have to write to the Surveyor detailing what you are able to do and what areas you are able to work in. Obviously give details of other sites that you have worked on as this stands you in good stead. Once a site comes up in your area you will receive a tender pack and then a deadline for you to complete and return it by. You will have to send it back with your risk assessments, Method statement, COSHH and insurance. To be honest most Surveyors go for the cheapest company! I know that isn't the best policy but they are tyring to save money and do everything on the cheap. Its only when that company makes a mess of things that they suddenly come running to you to do the job properly. That happened to us last year with a site. The Company that went in before us obviously hadn't done builders cleans before. They were shown the door after two weeks and we were called in! Good luck with it and keep trying.

To be quite honest you couldn't go straight for the large tendered jobs anyway because you would have to wait upto nearly 60 days to get paid. I work with small developers who do around 150 units a year, and once ur in aslong as you do a good job they will keep using you. Ive got all my documentation but all they asked for was my liability paperwork. I would target your local developers and ask to quote on the next developement
