SUB CONTRACTING WINDOWS?
« on: August 27, 2006, 12:21:59 pm »
Hi All

I've just started trading (Office Cleaning) and have been asked to give office cleaning quotes for office buildings of varying sizes - a couple of three story terraced victorian houses and a couple of modern two story serviced office buildings.

They want an all inclusive quote for cleaning, consumables and windows etc.... I'm having real problems quoting for the windows!

I've had a few local commercial window cleaners in to give me a price for the windows; however, their prices were higher than the actual cost for cleaning the entire building!!

Considering these will be monthly cleans and probably with more to follow I would have expected more reasonable prices?

What do you guys do? What prices should I expect to pay for sub contracting?

Hi
After the NEW WORKING AT HEIGHT REGS came in in April 2005 I subed all my widow cleaning work out to a reach pole comp.I now explain to my clients that they are responsable for anyone that does work on their site.If anything happens to a worker on their site its not only the company but the client that is held responsable for failing to check thier risk ass, method statements etc befor giving them the contract/work.
Reach pole work is expencive but the safety outways the risk and legal mine field of ladders.I pay about £35.00
for a 2 story office the size of a 4-5 bedroom house, hope this helps.

I would also like to add that you could contact the sub-contractor, enquire as to any discount they will offer you for this job and mention that you will continue to use them for other up and coming jobs - they should give you a good discount eventually but don't expect too much so soon. With any discount they give you you then add that back onto the actual figure they would've charged you - using that as your profit.....remember, don't be too greedy and expect too much profit, you're not the one doing the work since you are sub-contracting out, any profit is better than none at all and your customer should not be ripped off!

As jimmyjames pointed out - do make sure they have all the necessary H&S and method statements etc. - if anything happens and you didn't make sure of the necessary and legal requirements you'll be in serious trouble!
