  Hi guys been reading through the history pages and come across working at height regs. Im newish to the trade,  and although iv been on the iosh course through a previons employer, im unsure as to what a window cleaner needs to have and should have. Also iv read you should be able to prove that using a ladder i;e tradition method is the only way you can do the job, but obviously wfp can also do the job, and safer. As i said i am newish, and am building a round from scratch using tradition, are the H and S people saying i should not be doing this? Any examples of risk assesments or method statements would be hugely appreciated.

Ladders are not banned for the moment; WFP should be the first option when looking at any job, if you don’t have a WFP then for your own personal safety its def a good business move, if that’s not the case at the moment then risk assessment the job your about to do and if your happy it is ok to put a ladder up (the ground is not uneven, wet / slippery, or just a danger to you or the public) then proceed with the job, current H&S thinking for use of ladders is best for ground and 1st floor only, see your newest to the trade! I would see if any one local to you can show you the ropes and tips of the trade, you can’t beat being out with someone for the day

You will soon have some replies that will show you some risk assessment examples, ditto method statements, or they will post the links for you.
As Poleman said, currently ladders are still ok, and I personally think that learning window cleaning the trad way is the best way to go.
Should you use WFP you will still need all the trad skills, so stick with it.

I'd steer away from 3rd floor work though, and if you are also new to working off ladders...take care!
There are many do's and don'ts with safe useage of ladders, I don't have the time this morning to post the links to the relevent health & safety docs, but hopefully someone will.
