Conservatory Roof Ladders?
« on: August 25, 2006, 01:37:08 pm »
Thinking about getting some conservatory roof ladders as have been getting a few requests to clean cons roof recently, 4 already this month

Just wondering if anyone on the forum uses them as they are quite pricey and your opinion on whether or not they are a good investment

Thanks
Mark

Thanks macc

Think they will be a good investment, I'll probably order them over the weekend.
Hopefully should recoup the outlay in a couple of months

Cheers

For that money I would buy a WFP 32ft pole and have it for other jobs as well as conservatories.

If you check my website you will see images of conservatories I have cleaned with WFP so you can see the results for yourselves.

Obviously if your traditional it would be useless, in which case the ladder it is.

Hi Trevor

Thanks for the advise
I do use wfp, but never used it on a conservatory roof before. Does it a good job even the roof has not been cleaned for years and is covered in mould?

Thanks
Mark

I used to clean the roofs with just wfp til i came across reverse pitch roofs (roofs that slant towards the house) they are impossible to do unless you do have a ladder!!

Hi Trevor.

I do agree with what your saying, wfp does bring the roofs up great but i just think conservatory roof ladders will make cleaning them so much easier, the same as wfp opposed to trade in the right circumstances.

My oppinion Squeaky,  ;)

Good evening everyone,

I have used the conservatory ladders previously, even though I clean all conservatories via wfp.  There only real down fall is, they have been designed for the industry standard size of a conservatory. There have been a few cases where I have used them and you could not get access onto the roof as the wall panes where to high etc. If you take a look at the first conservatory roof in my image gallery, the conservatory roof ladder could not access this.

http://www.24-7pwcs.co.uk/html/image_gallery.html

WFP is fantastic on these roofs also and I must say the results on a glass roof are amazing and it keeps the client more than happy. The other good thing is, 9 times out of 10. If you do an excellent job on the external roof, you are more than likely to get the internal clean as well.

If you just use traditional methods and you do a high turnover of roofs each year, it would be a worthwhile purchase. However, if that does not apply to you, I would recommend hiring them from HSS (you need to book them a few weeks in advance as not every store has them). Also, book three or even four in for one day, and spread the hire cost of the ladder between those three or four clients, then it has not cost you a penny so to say.

Hope the above is of help

Many Thanks

Andrew

Andrew,

Just looked at your images, very good, very effective, picture paints a thousand words as they say.  Were these all done just using WFP? as I can't get satisfactory results just using the pole, it may be that the brush we use is too soft (vikan)

I also noticed on your gutter cleaning that one of the roofs is covered in moss, have you ever offered to do this for them?

We did one last year, using 7.5m pressure lance, not as bad as yours, charged them £400 and it came up gleaming.  Just something to think about!

Morning everyone,

Thanks for your comments on the gallery Trevor and Ian. I always take pictures of before and after on all conservatory/ fascia and gutter jobs. This make selling the next job 100 times easier.

All the work is via water fed pole. I do not use Vikan heads (nothing against them, I just feel especially on windows, they can cause spotting, due to the bristle ends breaking off. Currently I use the double trim Ionic brushes.

I have thought about going into moss removal, but I will only do this after training and also the purchase of cherry picker (not van mounted). A few of my clients have asked me in the past and one client even told me he has had a quote for 3.5k to remove all the moss from his roof. Jokingly, I told him I would do it for 2k and he accepted, however, he is aware I will not do it until I have the right equipment.

Many Thanks

Andrew

Hi.
Has anybody made their own conservatory ladders, I have been thinking for a while if it would be possible to convert an old set of alloy ladders and making my own, there doesn't seem that much to them, any ideas would be appreciated.
Always do your best - It will pay off in the end...

Snap. I think Mick mostly uses the "leanto" bottom section, part of his ladder. And was wondering about fitting a stand off device that bridged the roof spars,  onto a cut down double extension that would allow height adjustment.
