Police fined me today >:(
« on: August 23, 2006, 07:36:25 pm »
Driving through a small village today and I saw a small police van coming towards me. I didn't have time to reach over and put my belt on. I looked back In my wing mirror and saw them hitting the brakes. Doh!

I pulled Into a small shop car park and parked tight up to the wall to hide from them. I went Into the shop shop to get a tin of juice and a sweet and when I came out they were parked next to the van >:(

So I was called in to there van where they Issued me with a  ticket >:(

Before they gave me the ticket she said "this Is going to be an expensive tea break for you"

I replied, "why? How much Is the fine?"
She said, "30 quid"

I didn't like there attitude so I cheackly replied back. "Oh Is that all. The next house I'm going to only takes me 40mins and I charge 30 quid. So that will pay for It ;D No skin off my nose" ;D

They didn't like that so I shut up.

They must be tight for cash just now! Why can't they go out and catch some real criminals??? Ar** holes!! >:(

Anyway why should us window cleaners have to wear seat belts? Postmen and milkmen  are exempt!!! Where I live a postie might have to travell up to 2 miles to his next house! I was only going about 1/4 of a mile.

The law Is all wrong!

My girlfriends father was In a very serious crash years ago and he wasn't wearing his belt. The car rolled about 6 times and was embeded Into a large tree when It came to a halt. He was thrown around Inside the car and he ended up In the passenger seat. The drivers side was all caved in and If It wasn't for the fact he wasn't wearing his belt he wouldn't be here today!

You don't realise do you.

The police won't spend their time tracking down real criminals as that just doesn't generate enough money for the government. If they go out looking for jo bloggs for a quick £30 easy peasy they can probably get quite a few in a day.

Like you said, you've earnt in 40 mins what they take hours to do, who laughs last laughs loudest!

Come on.. it was a fair cop and you know it   ;)

You did the crime and you got nicked.  Just as I did a few years ago.

She who must be obeyed used to manage a charity shop. Every now and then they put those bags you get through the door out for collecting.  Guess who used to get roped into collecting them?  Yes.. me coz I have vans.

Anyway that really is door to door driving but you have to go from one street to another as you go. Every time I did this the Mrs who was always with me (To make sure I didnt go through the bags first)  :)  would tell me off for not wearing my seat belt.

One time whilst doing this good deed a very nice boy in blue pulled me over and commenced to to tell me all about wearing a seat belt no matter how short the journey. I was doing really well saying "Its all for charity etc" and he had just said OK take this as a warning...  WHEN...  Guess who piped up saying..  I am always telling him about this.. blah.. blah. Oh yes he says..  gets his book out and fines me 30 rotten quid!!  He says to the Mrs..  he will listen to you now.  :(

At the end of the day its an offence to drive without your seatbelt on, just like its an offence to use your mobile while driving , and how many people do you see doing that

You may know of this one case, I'm sure if you asked an average traffic cop he would tell you of the 100s of lives seat belts have saved.

If I did take It all the way and I went to court and lost do I have to pay legal fees???

How much could It cost me If I loose.

There was two of them who spoted me. So could I still have got off with It?

Yes that may be the case and thats exactly what the police want you to hear. They never tell you of all the people who have died with lap belts cutting into them.

It's the same with the goverment. They only tell you what they want you to to hear!

So next time you are bombing down the motorway at 70 mph just ask yourself one question,

If I hit something what is my best chance of survival, wearing a seat belt which may give me whiplash or other serious injury OR would I prefer to carry on travelling at 70 mph through the windscreen & smash into what ever I have hit.

Err, that's a tough one

Passed a traffic cop a week or so ago
We were monovering past each other I realised I had not put my belt on  :'( :'(
I hoped he would not notice. ???
As we were level I herd “SEAT BELT”  :-[
I replied “YES SORRY”
Never seen him after
I think he was one of the very rare cops that could see my ladders
Realised I was moving in and out and used his common sense. :)

But if I had been on a main road I think I’d be £30 pound shorter for my week.

The police aren't really 'police' are they?  Not really!

They're more like government revenue generators.

Even the ruddy Community Support Police; the only time I ever seee them is in nice-quiet areas checking road tax discs or writing out tickets for parking infringements.

Where are they during pub closing time, or when there's a mass of Chavs hanging around our local Tescos Express; frightening the old pensioners?

I'll tell you, they're no-where to be seen; since they've hit their governmental-set quota for crime-busting; because they aim for the soft targets.

Wish I never started this one.

Seems some people aren't too happy with what I have said.

I don't want to stir anything or upset anyone.

So I'm sorry If I've said anything you dont like.

I was just telling you what happened to me. Thats all.

No harm meant.

If you have a crash at over 40 MPH, the difference a seat belt makes to your survival is negligible.

Fact.

If you're a grown up and don't want to wear one; that's upto you.

I personally think our police have better things to do with their time than 'nanny' people who don't wear seat belts.

I know half a dozen people who have come out of very minor crashes with severe whip lash. i was involved in a crash at 60 with no belt and only suffered a slight bruise from the air bag, the other driver who had on a belt  had extremly severe whiplash.

The seat belt rule is now just a revenue raiser by a nanny state exactly like speed cams.

So stop wearing a seat belt.

If you get whiplash it means the head rest is the wrong height.

How comes so many people know so many people who injuries were made worse by seat belts or who survived better off by not wearing them?

What did you all do, go back and re create the exact accident with a seatbelt to arrive at the answer? And then repeated it over and over again with different criteria?

A lot of research went into seatbelts and head rests or what ever they are called. Do you seriously think that these rules are just for money? If you do then sorry, but there is no answer anyone can give you other than one that is to your liking based on your own limited experience.

Speed cams have nothing to do with raising revenue. They have to do with accident blackspots and where people have died on more than one occassion. Speed camera's came about because of drivers speeding... Der..... It does not take much working out. If you drive at the speed limit and not above ... Or are some car drivers entittled to break the law with impunity?

Check out the facts first before doing a 'Sun newspaper' knee jerk reaction.

Sorry to sound abrasive but just do some research instead of jumping on the media bandwagon.

Hi JohnL

Cheers mate. Had a few pc problems. Hope you are ok.

The speed camera thing being about money is a joke. If it was about money then why aren't they everywhere? Some don't think clearly. It's not as if they are hidden?

Cheers
