I find this a little odd.

I could be wrong, but would have thought you would at least need to pass an approved contractor criteria? Additionally I was also under the impression that these type of contracts had to go out to public tender more often through the various agencies.

I believe most councils operate now on  a "best value" policy which is not necessarily the cheapest.

Hi, DP, need a cleaner and all,

We have contracts with two local councils, both approached us, we quoted and got the work.

I have seen adverts in local papers inviting companies to tender for work, sometimes cleaning.

I think as long as you are a legit company your ok ;D

regards

BSF

We've done work for a local council.

All they wanted was insurance, h&s policy and we offered risk assesments which they were impressed with but didn't actually ask for

Yup I did say I could be wrong on this and looks like I am.

I know my local councils here were quite anal about this, and when I was managing another company, part of my task was to get the company on various approved council lists. Some said it was closed for the year, others said there was a waiting list of up to 6 months etc, however all said there was no chance unless we were on one.

It maybe a regional thing or the rules may have just simply changed or maybe I have just been listening to the wrong people. Perhaps now I might re-investigate and test the water again so thanks guys for the info.

Sorry need a cleaner… I will try and answer your question/s: no they don’t get any sort of discount, in my experience they will shy away from signing long term contracts, they always pay you (not always on time though) its very good advertisement for your business having them as your customers and  there is always the prospect of getting more work from them, hope this helps.

Regards

BSF ;D
