Hi everyone.
thanks for all your posts, and help, im still leaflet dropping and canvassing, i aim today to go to a nearby supermarket and hand small leaflets out to customers leaving,  i am also wondering about popping a small A5 leaflet under car windscreen wipers as an alternative to standing there all day, that way i could pop back every few hours and do the whole process agin and again, i do understand that if i gain any customers from this ,they could be well spread out, but i would rather have this than nothing and you never know i may get lucky... have any of you guys tried this and did it work?

Hi Gary.....I have to admit I have just started..i.e today been out putting my leaflets out....250 leaflets out (2 calls within a hour)

I have to admit that leaflets put under my wipers really gets me annoyed....I don't know why but it just does.

i thought that may be the reply i got, anyway i popped a hundred out for a tester,,, i think its annoying too ... but i wouldnt if i needed a window cleaner lol. got a call today nipped round to give her a price , she said" oh i forgot about you , but i shouldnt have because you guys are like gold and hard to find "  she gave me the job.. so i knocked on every door in her immediate area..... nothing lol.!... just shows eh.

why not try the biz board at the front of store for a few quid would save you hanging around a tall just a thought  worth a try

I would take my chances; and if I was stopped then I'd leave.  The store can't jail you or anything; just ask you to stop.

As for annoying people; it would probably make me cross as it's a pain when you get in your car and drive off; only to notice someone's stuck a leaflet under your wiper; just when it starts to rain.

But if someone's desperate for a window cleaner and gets your leaflet: there's a new customer; potentially.

I think it would be a good way of getting your leaflet out to 200 or so people extremely quickly.

In the same vein, I've considered doing some roadside advertising; but not yet got my bottom around to doing it.

Also, it may be more time-consuming and require a bit of courage, but door knocking is more productive in getting a good concentration of customers.

Is it 'Illegal' or 'Unlawful'?  It does actually matter.

I remember when i was selling cars and we had a sale event. Me and a few guys went to the towns car parks and put flyers on the windscreens, probably around 1500 or so. The next day the company got a bill from the council for cleaning up charges from all the people who disposed of them on the floor, so be carefull.

that puts an end to that, i went back to the car park later when it was really quiet, to check if it was littered with my leaflets, there was two on the floor, so was just about to pick them up.....then i thought hang on a mo. lol ...someone may just pick that up and need a window cleaner... so i left them

why is it? whilst canvassing, i always get told by an enthusiastic customer that this area is crying out for a window cleaner..so im back up up in my toes again with renewed vigour.....then nothing !

thats why now all I do is leaflet drop. I used to get so down being told no at every door I knocked at. Now I just post leaflets and I can post four  leaflets to every one door knocked and I'm not suicidal when I go home

Another 255 leaflets this morning and another call....that 3 calls from around 500 leaflets.... Once woman has told us that she'll go around her neigbours to see if they want their windows doing...because "it'll be easier if you have a load in a street rather than just one"..... Well this week seems to looking good.....

So leaflets seem to be providing some leads and lets face it, I am not exactly weighed down with work, so my time is being well spent..

Gary, yeah I know it is a pain but just think when you can schedual work to fit around you and the things you want to do and not have to ask permission, days, weeks, months inadvance from some manager/supervisor who is only in that position as he/she has been shunted around the company dept to dept and finally been promoted to their level of incompetance.

I myself love to dive and look forward to the time that I can sneek off friday afternoon to Rotterdam(boat out to N.Sea) and get 2 night dives in before most people wake up on saturday.

Thats what I try to keep in my head but then again this is only day 2 for me....

leaflets work plain and simple, would never knock domestic doors as lets face it, we all hate it when its done to us. Have not leafletted for months now but still looking for higher prices all the time so have lady starting again next week best so far 15 from about 450

I disagree.

I never do a hard sell, and just say the following:

'Good morning/afternoon, sorry to disturb you, but do you need a window cleaner?'

If they say 'No', I thank them for their time, give them a card; just in case; and leave.

If they say 'Yes' or 'Well, er how much', then I crack on from there.

No-one's ever been nasty or rude to me; some have had that 'Oh I was in the middle of something there' look about them; but I ensure they have a quick 'get rid of me' clause built into my spiel.

I also get told, 'Sorry, no, I've already got a brilliant window cleaner' (or words to that effect) and I think that's great.  I still leave them a card though; just in case.

To be honest, I've not done much canvassing lately; just now and again; when I get a hot tip that a window cleaner has 'dropped out' in an area I want to build up in.

It does work though; if they haven't got a window cleaner and want one.
