HALFORDS........issues with tank/van?
« on: Yesterday at 02:35:36 pm »
So my van was booked in for MOT/interim service this morning. I always take ladders off, poles out, etc, etc. I also make sure my tank is less than a quarter full.

Halfords would not MOT my van! They said my water tank had to be totally empty as it was too heavy for the vehicle lifts! My van is a connect L2 240. Lots of vans are bigger/heavier and its well within my payload.

I should of listened to you Danny!I re booked my van in at my local garage where I used to live for a couple of weeks time.

Ive never ever had an issue MOTing any vans with tanks in the back at local garages
price higher/work harder!

My van has been MOT’d at Halfords a few times without issue.

What a jobsworth , a range rover is probably heavier than your van with quarter of a tank .

I had the same issue with my local garage that did all my maintenance so when I took it in for MOT they would take it to local council garage where there was no problem with the weight

That’s the problem with these big national companies, ‘computer says no’ mentality. If they were running there own garage and responsible for their own marketing etc they’d be out of business with an attitude like that.

That's a new one, I understand if your tank is full but to have a quarter tank then is should be under the limit. Maybe a Friday and they have too much work on today. Will let my mate know who runs his own garage to see what he thinks.

Can’t wait to hear what your mate who owns a garage thinks, make sure to report back….

I took all my equipment out and my tank was under a quarter full. How can it be overweight for a vehicle lift? It's a connect van!

Did they service it? I would have driven off.

It might be 2 poster lifts and they need it empty for stable balance not a problem with 4 posters.

As long as the vehicle is under it’s legal weight limit it shouldn’t matter should it?

Class 4 MOTs cover vehicles (cars, vans) up to 3000kgs. There is no way Dazmond's van weighs any near that, even with a full tank of water. If their lifts don't lift that weight, then there is no way they should be doing class 4 MOT's period, as they haven't the right equipment.
I'd be inclined to report it.

Halfords are a bunch of tossers. Took my van starter battery back under it’s 5 year warranty. Said I did too many short journeys  & should be bench charging it every couple of weeks!!! This is my starter battery remember, not the leisure battery running my pumps. I wanted to burn the place down or drive my van straight through their windows I was so annoyed. Only ever go there now if I’m absolutely desperate.

How old was the battery?

Sometimes its unavoidable, but anything i have to get done etc, I try avoid the bigger companies and get a local independent person to do it. Because as soon as a computer says no scenario arises its one less job for them to do that day and that's that.

The local ones will put in more effort as its directly effecting there pocket with not doing it.

You'd probably find the local garage would have drained the water if the weight was to much just to get the job done.

4 years into a 5 year warranty. Asked to speak to the manage & he said he was the manager.
Got head office number but just couldn’t be arsed in the end. I needed a battery asap so got one elsewhere the same day.
Put a bad review online that they removed.

Went to Halfords in December as it was close and I needed a new battery on my Transit Custom. The guy said they couldn’t fit it ,as it’s to difficult .

There not really a garage.I wouldn’t use for servicing and m.o.t’s

The problem with battery warranties is they only pay out for a manufacturing fault. Once you get beyond a couple of years it's so easy for any supplier to plead 'wear and tear'.

Sometimes the payback is proportional even then so if you are three years in they say you have had 60% use so at best you'll get 40% of the purchase price.

I learned 30 years ago with a car battery that there would be a lot of tooth sucking and 'we'll send it to the manufacturer but if they say nothing is wrong you have to pay all the postage' sort of antics.
