Xmas Tips
« on: November 04, 2025, 12:51:31 pm »
So does anyone drop any hints about tips to customers?

Similar to pubs and restaurants!

In your texts would it be a simple 'Happy Christmas' at the end of your I'm coming tomorrow texts?  Or a more direct approach asking those who pay by GoCardless to let you know if they want a tip amount to be added to the total?  Hoping with others not on GC to take the hint.

I've seen a drop in tips over the years as I think we get forgotten about.

Although I've never droped any hints before as thought it's a bit cheeky.   But how else to we get our Xmas bonus or even a bit of money to cover our lost days of work over the holidays.

Just food for thought guys.

Personally don’t agree with tipping , we especially should not need to worry about them if you are reliant on tips then you are doing something very wrong , if ones choose to give a tip that’s up to them but we would never drop any hints , if a tradesman did that to me he certainly wouldn’t be getting one . Any tips we get the staff have  and ime more than happy with that .

Even though I don't work anymore I have never during my working life dropped any hints with reference to tipping.

Like most WC's we did get a few and thanked the customers accordingly but I would never expect it or even drop hint ie xmas cards .

It all sounds a bit desperate to me, ive never expected tips and tbh they are almost non existent theses days anyway, its certainly dying out.

Daz sends them a card as a bit of manipulative giving i believe   ;D

You may as well just ask them

If someone sent me that text then I'd think there a cheeky bar steward and probably camcel them. If they want to give you a tip then they will. It's a but cheeky mentioning it to them tbh.

I have found that since bank paymeants, the tips have declined no there not paying cash.

Next youl be putting a santa outfit on when the 1st of December comes to go round the run.

I was told to hand out Christmas cards by some old timer once but couldn't be bothered. One of my posh customers gives me a score every year as a tip and I must admit I like him more than all the rest on that posh estate. Every since my paper boy days in the 1970s I have always taken to customers who give me tips. 🤔

No just don’t agree with dropping unsubtle hints about tips , if someone did  that to me it would be the last time they ever did work for me . We charge a reasonable price for  what we do and don’t expect a tip but if customers want to that’s up to them .

It costs me around £12 for 200 xmas cards. I start posting mine from the 1st December on my work thats due. I have a stamp so I don't have to write each one out. I usually get around 50 cards from customers and of course some put cash tips in them too. Its nice to able to give them a card back.

I think it helps with the tips too. I usually hit around the £400-£600 mark which comes in handy over the Xmas holidays.🙂👍

By the way I don't buy my missus xmas presents or any of my family. I donate some money to the salvation army or a children's charity instead. (Apart from giving my stepson and daughter some money in a card on xmas day).😄

Of course none of us rely on tips but its nice when they do. It costs me around £14k in tax/insurances and expenses every year just to run my part time business and it's only going to get worse after the budget so extra money is welcome....
