Cutting VAT threshold to 30k
« on: August 30, 2025, 11:38:35 pm »
So, the latest tax squeeze may beto reduce the VAT threshold to 30k.
What's everybody's thoughts on this?

I work 4 days a week, was thinking of reducing to 3 in the  next few years.
This might happen sooner, fortunately I'm in a relatively good position.
I think the potential  customers I could lose would be equal to or more than the amount of work I'd need to reduce to get under the threshold.

Daily Mail muckraking, look at the way they reported every doomsday scenario going before the last budget. 30k vat threshold would be  a  disaster  for growth, I'll worry about it when there's some credibility and substance behind it.

Not a mention of it on the BBC news page,it's such a huge story if it had legs that every news outlet would be talking about it.

This a typical example of press creating a story just to divide and create issues, They think it's their job to make up stuff and the public are force fed situations in an effort to create more stories.
Dividing and forcing people into a certain camps means they will never run out of stories.
Media is best ignored, if you want to live a contented life, wait until it happens, is my advice.

While I agree with the media hype. This story has been around for years before this lot came in. Yes, until it happens, there isn't much we can do.
It was  more of a theoretical question what would you if it does.

Why waist time and effort  thinking /talking about something that is 99% not going to happen, if it did come in then most would have to be vat registered how would HMRC cope with that ? They can’t keep up with things now this is why making tax digital have been put back so many times

I wouldn't be surprised if the VAT level is decreased to £50-60k maybe less as the government are squeezing everybody right now.

We would get riots and demonstrations in the street if the government dropped the VAT limit to 50k as well as the increased admin for us and HMRC....

It simply won't happen IMO
