Admittedly it’s something I’ve not been very good at over the years, applying sunscreen. I’ve always been a bit of a sun worshipper, not anymore.

At 44 I’ve just had a large lesion cut out of my neck, 32 stitches and a nice 6 inch scar and a week or so off work. Suspected Basal Cell or Squamous Cell skin cancer., sent off for biopsy so it’s a 4-6 week wait on the results. This is the first of atleast 2 surgeries, the next one will require plastic surgery after removal.

If you’ve got any moles or lumps and bumps on your skin then get straight to your GP and insist you get looked at by a dermatologist. Early detection is vital.

And don’t forget your sunscreen and a sun protection hat.

Hope it turns out OK for you. The sun has to be our biggest danger in this job, we have figures for ladder falls but I doubt there's any stats specifically on how many windys get skin cancer. I'm guilty of not wearing a hat because I look such a prat  wearing it but this year I've put my vanity to one side and  started wearing one.

My doctor told me never to go out in the sun over 25 years ago now but if I did to wear long pants and tops due to me having  a large proportion of moles....

Obviously I ignored him and told him I wasn't going to take his advice because I do an outside job....

I do wear sunscreen most of the time but I'm not gonna wear long pants and tops in this weather and I love my luxury,sunny holidays. I'll take my chances.

It would be impossible to check my moles because I have literally 100 of them!

I did have 2 off my neck around 20 years ago now but they didnt turn out to be cancerous luckily despite them bleeding and itchy.

Hope you'll make a full recovery mate. They have fantastic treatments for skin cancer these days.

I`ll wear it on hol if im off out all day in the sun or on the beach but i just tend to avoid best i can at home.

Going to sound like your dad here but that's massively irresponsible of you, I hope you don't have to regret it. We're exposed to the sun (and it doesn't have to be  scorching) for a very large part of our lives, it will be damaging your skin. I don't like slapping it on either but it just needs to be part of a routine you get into. I hope you reconsider.

Going to sound like your dad here but that's massively irresponsible of you, I hope you don't have to regret it. We're exposed to the sun (and it doesn't have to be  scorching) for a very large part of our lives, it will be damaging your skin. I don't like slapping it on either but it just needs to be part of a routine you get into. I hope you reconsider.

Adam can do what he likes.....loads of us have smoked,drank large amounts of alcohol and took many different street drugs but are still here healthy and happy.

One thing I've noticed in the 32 years of being a window cleaner is nothing surprises me anymore in how some of my customers have died...

One died of lung cancer and had never smoked in her life

Another customer (who  i was at school with) died of  a brain tumour at 46 and was a clean living,athletic woman who also had never smoked,drank to access or took any illegal drugs....

Sunscreen is not that effective anyway unless you smear tons of factor 50 on 3 or 4 times a day which none of us do....

Usually it's a case of factor 30 once in the morning then none for the rest of the day.

I had a similar scare, having had miner surgery to remove the mole that went bad.   It was sent off for examination and came back all clear and innocent.   They said it was a good job they removed it as in time it could turn malignant. 

I now cover up, never where shorts, always wear long sleeved tops no matter how hot it is unless I'm on holiday.

Sunscreen every day, even if overcast.   Don't take risks chaps.  You'll regret it.

Had skin cancer removed twice from face, wear factor 50 sun cream, doctor told me if its warm enough to wear a t-shirt  you need sun cream on

I love a tan as most of us do and I do put suncream on most of the time but no way could I wear long pants and long sleeves in the hot weather we ve had the last 3 months. As a bodybuilder I look more defined with a light tan.

Cheers fellas, recovery is going well, wound is healing nicely so far and getting better every day.
Just a month or so to wait now for the results. Also have another surgery booked in for early September, this one with a plastic surgeon as it’s a bit more complex, fun times.

Make your mind up mate...talk about mixed messages... your always preaching about the evils of alcohol... you cant then turn round and use it as a tool to enforce "why are you bothered"

Almost 50% of people will get cancer in their lifetime, i know suncream will help reduce the percentage but we are born naked, we are designed to be exposed to the sun, hiding from it seems like going too far. Dont get me wrong i will wear it if i feel im going to burn if its knocking on 30 degrees and i can really feel it or on hol exposed for a few hours....but that more because i dont want the pain of being burnt than worrying about skin cancer.

You cant hide from eveything in life just incase, be sensible of course no ones suggesting laying their for hours burning is clever but id rather just wear a wide brimmed hat and limit my exposure.
