Is £2 to much ?
« on: May 28, 2025, 06:09:48 am »
Hi gents thanks for reading,
I haven’t increased my prices for two years,we’ve also had 47% increase on our water bill recently ,along with all other prices on the increase.

I’m thinking about increasing all my customers by £2  ( most jobs are six weekly ) what do you think ?

That’s £16 per annum. I always include that line in the text/notification.
If anyone refuses that, they ain’t worth keeping.
£3 is only £24 pa.

Absolutely.

You'll probably get one who thinks inflation and pay rises don't include us.   Those customers are best gone along with those who will drop you in a heart beat for a cheaper price.

I use a inflation calculator and send the link with the notification of increase, and say if they use the link they can check how much it should go up.

I wouldn't send them that. You want to beat inflation not match it.

The old £1 or £2 conundrum

Put them all up £2 lose loads and wish you went for £1. Or put them all up £1 lose barely any and wish you went for £2.

I'd start with the ones you like the least and work backwards.

Most of my customers are pensioners.

Between 2022 and 2025 the state pension has gone up 20%. As has general inflation.

I put my prices up once they are over two years old and go for more than 10% in every case then rounded up to the nearest pound.

It's an ongoing process.

There are exceptions to very well priced jobs but that is my general rule of thumb.

So a £20 job over two years old goes up to £23 making it 15%.

Now inflation is dropping I will probably row back to about 10%.
It's a game of three halves!

I put most of my jobs up last month. Some £1,£2,£3 and £5. Only lost one up to now and 2 have gone 8 weekly from 4 weekly(pensioners)

I'll  be earning around £2k extra a year for the same work...

Remember pensioners got a rise last month so should you. I always put mine up in April at the start of the tax year (every 2 or 3 years)

I've never lost more than 2 or 3 jobs every time I've put hundreds of jobs up at once. It's always a win win.

Of course you always have to keep your service good....

I usually add a £1 to the ones I would be happy to lose. My starting rate is a tenner now so far above the windy with the ladder who is £7. I lost one to them and in 3 months the guy asked to take me back because they don't do doors nor frames. I have found its better adding a pound on rather than wait a few years and add £2 because they start to question why the £2 rise. In the end, just time yourself and only then will you realise if its worth your while charging that amount. If its not worth your while then you are better off losing the clean.

Never have been able to fathom out why anyone would employ the services of a wc who only cleaned the actual glass, even back in the ladder days, no one wants to be left with dirty frames.

I put quite a few up ten percent and round up to nearest pound, bills go up and our wages go up to reflect the inflation otherwise  we  are basically taking a pay cut.

I think a £2 increase  is very reasonable we always start at £3 and go up from there depending on the  current price .

Easily done.  Just stick them up.

If you're worried about losing customers, just stick them up in tranches, one area at a time.
