has any body any idea what these are lurking under this carpet, it is the outside edge of carpet in a confrence , banqueting room in a large hotel.
there where certainly ants there, and what looked like winged ants ,not to clear from the pic i dont think, is this possible? do ant have wings?
seconly what is going to be the best form of attack?

There are flying ants, I dont know the technical term for them but they seem to appear through July and August, I presume they share the nest with ordinary ants, as for treating them I remember as a 6 year old a mixture of my mums hairspray and vinegar did the trick down the bottom of the garden but I'm sure theres probably something a bit more advanced on the market nowadays, Andy

yes flying ants are prevalent this time of year if you catch them flying out of the nest you will see hoards of birds flying in circles eating them

Can I suggest if you've got a big problem with the flying ants you set a tapir loose in the room, they can eat about 20lb's a day, Andy

Flying ants mate at this time of year in during flight and they tend to die off within a few days so constantly breeding is limited.

I have found in the past that Jeyes fluid mixed 3 parts water to 1 part jeyes in a spray bottle works, but not on carpeted area for obvious reasons.
