hi, have my own domestic cleaning business, but have been approched regarding commercial contacts, but have no idea on how much to charge for this kind of work. Do i charge the same as i would for domestic cleaning per hour ?.  Also do you charge per office or work space ? this is another area of confusion, sorry to ask so many questions, but we all have to make a start somewhere.  Would really appreciate some helpful information, as this is the kind of work i really want to get into.  Many thanks and hope to hear from someone helpful soon.

the big boys in the commercial game quote at approx 25oo sq ft per hour per person fro a two hour slot,

the smaller chaps work on lower productivity rates,  therefore area, x productivity rate equals times hourly rate add 5% for materials.

hourly rate can be the houraly rate you are paying the cleaners or the hourly rate for your charging rate, and will therefore already include your profit margin

What have you interpreted the reply to mean with regards to pricing work, because I cant make anything of it, is the 25oo sq ft , £25 per sq ft? what does the per person mean for a 2 hr slot.

I really am baffled….

Hi bsf, sorry for the delay, with regards to martins information, the way I have worked this out is that the BIG boys are working their prices per 2500 sqft per person, working within a 2 hour slot.  I on the other hand will work by an hourly rate, which you can either charge by your cleaners rate or your rate which you will include your profit plus 5% on materials. Ah thats a bit better explained now Martin thank you!

with out pointing out the obvious, 2500 sq ft can be quite different depending on the set up of the building (number of desks, toilets, floor type, etc etc)

Yes Martin, but most existing contracts will be covered by tupe, if you quote on that job, for example 50 hours per week, most importantly you need to know the existing staff’s hourly rate and hours worked per week in order to quote, therefore: you’re not going to do a blind quote, unless it’s a new  company/building.

I see from a few recent posts that their seems to be some concern around the tupe issue, when I go to quote on a job I will always ask the customer for details on the existing contractor to request details.

If there are five staff doing ten hours per week, I am happy to employ them, 90% of the time the problem is only down to bad management.

The bad apples can be weeded out when you take over the job.

do i think people should be banned??  in truth i havent followed that particular post, when things start to get political it always creates difficulties.

i have benefited ffrom the board, and hope to continue doing so, i try to provide help to others, and i make a judgement call about who i will answer and who i choose not to help.

yes i maybe serious, but when you are looking at contracts worth sometimes £50k then you have to be serious, i have to ensure that i deliver that professional service for that professional level fee.  i hope to continue doing that.
