Upholstery fabric types
« on: March 16, 2021, 10:35:11 am »
Hi all, does anyone have a list of  upholstery fabric types that cannot be wet cleaned please?  With upholstery courses on hold finding out this information is difficult.

Many thanks

I've done a bit of carpet and upholstery cleaning.not an expert by a long way

Rayon is a no no regarding wet cleaning with water, but may only be the case if you over wet it,do your tests and proceed with caution,

The vast range of fabrics and fabric blends would make it difficult to make a definitive list. Plus the many trade names of fabric would also confuse the issue.

Best bet is to test all fabrics and treat each fabric on it own.

When cleaning an unknown fabric clean a section in an inconspicuous area then dry it, then compare it to rest of the suite

It is also good to find the lables with cleaning instructions on them. They are normally on the reverse of a cushion or a pull out tab down the back of the centre cushon. There is also a code on the lables to say if you can use water or solvent based cleaning.

Hope that helps

Except the labels which say dry clean only, followed by another paragraph saying to clean with warm soapy water and then one that says to get it professionally cleaned.

All your warnings, for every fabric type, on every sofa.  Just to be sure.
