At some point we are going to have to consider how we safely get back to work.

Have any of you formulated a plan to protect your self in the work place, social distancing should be easy enough for us but my main worry is entering an environment that has a potential for infection I.e. on work surfaces and possibly on fabrics etc.

My plan is.

1 wear gloves at all times.
2 wipe anything I may touch with antibacterial  wipes i.e light switches, door handles etc.
3 before bringing any equipment in, spray all areas with micro san
4 clean at temperatures above 60 degrees.
5 clean down equipment and wipe with antibacterial  wipes and dispose of gloves
6 wash hands with antibacterial hand soap
7 use alcohol gel

If a customers offers a drink I will kindly decline and I will carry my own refreshment.

May sound like overkill but I am anxious about dealing with the domestic environment, I have already said empty properties  I.e end of tenancy would ideally be empty for 72 hours.

Don’t think there is much more I can do other than wearing masks

I think we will have to let the government lead the way.

If they say all   over 65yrs old  people are to keep self isolating then they get wiped of the potential customer list, if they say all low risk people can start to lead normal lives then we can serve them with minimal precautions

We need to know 2 things, if we catch do we become  immune, if  so we can continue working we can’t  catch it again or pass it on to anyone else

& secondly if the customer has had the virus and is now immune we can clean for them as normal with no risk.


All the measures you mention won’t protect you or the customer, look how the hospital staff get dressed up in PPE and still they catch it.

I agree with you Mike but I think the age border will be an issue.  I am not being pedantic either,  but are you thinking if the Government says no one over 65 then it would be Safe and OK to work for a 64 year old?  Or are you gonna ask people to declare their age?

I would leave it to the customer to decide if they are willing to risk it.

if the government say all over 65s have to self isolate and I get a call from an obviously 90yr old then I will give her a clean.

Its not for us to decide who gets a clean,  if people are willing to let us into their homes then it’s on their heads. As long as we are safe then we can’t make the decision for the customer.

I get your point mike, but hospital staff have direct contact with the patient we don’t have to have direct contact, if the customer let’s you in and then disappear and leave you too it.

It will be the same for every trade person.

I’m seeing a changing attitude  on Facebook regards carpet cleaners advertising and the public’s response, at the beginning anyone who advertised was slagged off for not being essential and should be staying at home, not it completely different, people are asking for prices and not a whiff of the nasty comments from 4 weeks ago

Through out I have had a steady stream of people ringing to book work, got a long list too contact when we come out of lock down.

I am still wandering how things will play out, got visors coming on Monday already got masks and gloves, plenty of gel and anti bac  soap.  Mark at dp print has done me 10,000 good quality leaflets ready to go, so everything is in place other than this dam virus is still kicking about.

Enjoyed the weather over the past few days, and it made a change to be home with the kids, my little boy is loving been of school and having me at home, every cloud and all that.

Will need to be back soon finances have taken a battering and our holiday to Greece has gone to the wall, at least for this year I normally work 6 days a week but we take regular holidays through out the, might have to redress work life balance.

Don’t think we will be back to any real sense of normal for some time so we will have to find new ways to operate.

This is what I was thinking, atm we still cant visit inside the home of anyone who is not from the same household unless its for emergency repairs, so strictly speaking we shouldn't be working. I would certainly rather clean carpets than windows, but I can't see anyone wanting us until the ok is given. Some parents have already said they won't send their kids to school in June, so how can we work if there are whole families at home?

For me started to come quite a lot of enquires lately. Will do private jobs following guidelines but empty properties can be done easily.
