Has the quality of resin dropped?

I know what I think.

If option 3, from what to what?

Here's my usage since 2010.

Bear in mind our productivity has increased in this time too.

2017 was a problem with vessels...

I’ve always used mb115 and years ago it seemed to last forever then found I used to get hit n miss on bags and then I decided to go full on 4040 ro set up after I was going through a bag every month and a bit, now I’m saving loads of money not having to change resin!

Considering most of you clean with 001 or higher, i wouldn't worry about it.  ;D

Me? I change my resin monthly, regardless. So as long as im not using more than a bag every quarter, i personally dont care. As long as my meter is 000 im happy.

MB-115 is a grade. I assume you mean Tulsion.

I suspect the quality has dropped, yes.
I only use the resin to polish off after the RO.
For the past 5 years or so 10 ltrs of Tulsion MB115 used to last me 12 months.
But now I seem to be having to change the resin 2-3 times per year.
My last resin change was back in the first week of August which was also when I started to use a new 4040 membrane.
The resin is currently only polishing to 3ppm, I change resin when it gets to 5ppm.
I've used two different well known trusted suppliers and results seem to be the same.
So I suspect the quality from the manufacturer might not be what it used to be?

It's very much hit and miss with the bags these days.  I tend to replace one of my vessels every 4 weeks from a good bag (takes just over 2 fills to use a bag for me). I have had bad bags that started to creep up after 1 week.  Used the rest of the bag on the next change and crept up again 1 week. Started a new bag and back to one month. My incoming tds tends not to fluctuate too much.  I keep an eye on it on every fill as I have a 3 way inline meter set up (before 1st vessel, between the two vessels and end of second vessel)

How can you get so many bad bags these days?  Can we get a reply from a supplier on this?

I dont think it matters who you get them from as supplies get them from same source. They can't control the quality of the batch they received.   My last bag bag was from Gardeners so it happens to them all as I have had many good bags from them too.

I use double DI & my resin (from Gardiners) has been pretty consistent. Usage did go up a bit over the summer but that's because the TDS went up at the same time.

I've said a few times (always to virtually no response) that DI vessels may be to blame for apparent short life of resin.

I don't really want to get into numbers because it's eye watering but that graph plots £ spent.

In 2017 and early 2018 I spent more on resin than in 2014 + 2015 + 2016 this was entirely due to worn (and, it turns out, poor quality) resin vessels. They made the resin life appear, not just shorter but inconsistent too.

I replaced the risers, heads and baskets with better quality in early 2018, this has pulled me back down to ordinary levels.

I blamed the resin...

Aha - maybe this is the answer then. Iv got both 25ltr vessels from pure freedom, where did you get yours from?
Have you got a link for the risers, heads and baskets? It may be worth changing these to see if things improve

I bought the first ones in 2006 and bought more since then.

There are a few issues but primarily, they rely on rubber seals. Rubber seals are always going to perish over time.
