Im thinking of buying a ford custom m sport, which I know is over the top for window cleaning, but it’s my only vehicle.  Anyhow, for insurance purposes I would have to declare the modifications, which I would imagine would limit my options. In addition I would also have to declare a tank.  I’m worried that with both these declarations I have really limited my options.   Do any of you have modified vans plus tanks?

I don’t understand what you mean by modifications plus tank. What other modifications are you talking about apart from a tank?  The tank will be a modification but luckily more and more insurance companies are accepting tanks without increasing premiums.

Why not get some insurance quotes before you buy the van?

From my experience most insurance companies are happy to cover modifications for upto a 500L tank.

Im saying that the m sport is a modified van due to all the after market kit added.  What if the insurance accepted the van, but not the tank, or maybe the other way around.  Are there insurance companies that insure for both modified vehicles eg. Body kits, alloy wheels etc and water tanks?

If I get your drift correctly you are getting a van you can soup / pimp up and modify with spoilers , alloys etc, to use as a Boy Racer evenings and weekends but you also fit it out as a Window Cleaning Van to use on a daily basis.  Or am I missing something?

If the M sport comes as standard with body kits, alloy wheels etc, etc,  it’s not after market kit, it’s factory fitted, so it’s not a modification.

The m sport doesn’t come as standard. It’s starts off as a normal custom and goes off to Malcom Wilson in Wales.  I was wondering if anyone has a pimped up van and can insure both van and tank.  If it’s going to really limit my insurance options I might have to think of something else like a standard transporter sportline.

Probably best to speak to Malcolm Wilson in Wales and ask what his previous customers do regarding insurance.

My guess is that adding a fixed tank to the insurance won’t make nearly as much difference as adding big alloy wheels, large exhaust and spoilers etc.

I'd imagine most folks on here would have thought that a M sport was supplied from the factory thus unaware that it was then taken to Wales to look like a rally car!
What you'll need to check is the load that there alloys can take but while your there you could get your poles and kit rebadged. Msport edition Gardiner poles, that's the future!
