small debt
« on: November 11, 2018, 06:02:26 am »
A local cafe/Bar owes me £85.00. The debt is now six weeks overdue. I have contacted them several times about the debt and they say it will be paid. I get the impression that they think I will get bored and go away . If you were in this position what would YOU do to recover the debt?

Send them a letter giving them 14 days to pay then take it to small claims court.  I never let anyone take the pi$$ whether it is £85, £850 or £8500.  You did the work you want payment end of story IMO.

Alternatively especially with that type of business, I would also be bloody minded enough to sit or stand outside his front door with a placard saying this rip off merchant got me to do work and doesn’t pay his debts.  If I were him I would give you double to get rid of you and avoid the embarrassment  :D

Can you and your friends go in and run up a bill? Maybe have a meal or is it just a bar?

Have you gone into the bar stood in front of the manager or owner and verbally asked for you’re money or has all been done by email or phone calls. It easy to put some one off when they are not in your face.

I always like the Indian approach of sending round a gang of transvestites to sing and dance around the debtor to embarrass them into paying.

Think outside the box

get them to have your cards by till or get them to recommend you to customers on a commission basis until its paid. £10 or £20 a time should motivate them.

in these situation is so easy to get heavy surprise them and you will make a friend.

A polite letter threatening county court if not paid within 14 days usually prompts a quick response , mention court and other costs that will be added.
