Full throttle pressure washer? Or 3/4 revs...
« on: May 17, 2018, 08:50:48 am »
I’ve always run at 3/4 ish revs to control the pressure/flow when pressure washing.

However, I’ve recently heard you should keep the pressure washer at full throttle as that’s where the best power curve is and the engine won’t be ‘labouring’ or ‘hunting’. You should apparently use the unloader valve and not the revs to adjust pressure/flow.

What’s everyone’s thoughts? I find full throttle is bad for fuel and I assumed it’s worse for the engine... perhaps not...

Depends on what type of unloader you have

Generally why would you slow yourself down by running at 3/4 speed ?

We always run 100% and adjust pressure

In the early days you had the k2 (?) type with these I used to drop the revs when I needed

I just run at 3/4 because it saves fuel and means the turbo nozzle isn’t destroying the pointing etc.

I’ve never bothered with the unloader, no idea what type it is Darren, it’s a jetmac 21lpm 14hp loncin machine. AR pump.

Yes I know it’s not a Honda before anyone asks, and yes it’s a jetmac machine etc etc, but it’s sebrved me brilliantly over the last 2 years.

Anyway, Darren, perhaps you will know the type of machine and what’s best...

Could be anything mate - depends on what the builder of the machine me fancied at the time - it’s your machine/equipment so I would have thought you knew what you had, anyway sounds like your happily running it the way you are so it was a waste of time answering your query

You are a character Darren,

Yep more than happy to carry on as I am, it’s just a standard looking black valve you turn to reduce or increase pressure. No idea what ‘make’ it is, It just looks like every other pressure washer valve.

I know what machine I’ve got LOL. Just not what unloader valve I’ve got ::)roll

Hey ho  :)

character ? me ?

you asked and i gave my opinion on how i run my 4 PW's - it appears that you didn't really like what you've already been told and even less when others are using it way.

Basically run your equipment how you like and of course if its working carry on that way - just makes this thread pointless when asking others only to be prickly at their replies

The best way to save fuel is have auto throttles fitted where the revs drop to idle when you release your trigger ( however this have their own issues now the line )

Darren chill, there’s no issue!

I just wondered what’s correct in others experience. I’ll have a go with the unloader. No problems!

No idea why your thought I wasn’t happy with the answers. I just have no idea what type of unloader I have, there’s no numbers or ‘make’ on it.

Have a great day  ;D

Leave the unloader alone and use the throttle as necessary to adjust the pressure/flow    (within reason)

I have a Pro 21/Honda - I was advised by the manufacturer to use full throttle and adjust with the unloader valve

Thanks for the input Chris, that’s how I’ve alwahs done it, just wanted to make sure I wasn’t causing undue stress on the engine being at lower revs...

Needs to run full as fan cools the engine cylinder.
