The oil leak is on left side also.

Also couple tyres low on tread.

It's the central locking, oil leak that's got me worried.

Hi Lee, chin up mate!

Could have been worse...you could have paid a £200 deposit!  :o

Seriously though, the RAC report is there to provide a more accurate assessment of the vehicle's condition, in order for you to make an 'informed decision' as to whether to purchase it, or not. If you had known the problems prior to the report, you wouldn't have gone near it.

I am sure your deposit will be subject to 'the RAC report' and you should have no problems in getting your money back, if the garage is decent. Just be polite but firm.

If for some odd reason you don't get your money back, have they got large showroom windows?... ;D

HPI will only record anything that has involved an insurance claim and is in no way a guarantee that the vehicle has never sustained any damage. Many will carry out small to medium repairs without claiming against their insurance policy.

Just seen this email but feel I don't want to continue.

Lee,

Thanks for the report but to be honest,  it's all minor things that we can rectify.  Where £1000 for repairs has come from I've got no idea.

It even advises that "The defects as listed were considered commensurate with the vehicles age"

It's basically saying that vehicles within your budget will have the odd issue but nothing that can't be sorted.  If you get another inspection done on another van or a similar age and budget, you'll probably have the same sort of report.

This is why we're happy for rac / aa to inspect vehicles and advise us of what needs doing.  This is also why you come to a dealership, so you'll get a warranty, full service, new mot etc.

You are buying a used van after all.

If you still would like to refund your deposit, I will but we would like to have a chance to do as advised.

Kind regards

If work was carried out then I would presumably have to get another inspection through RAC.

As said.

I am in the middle and would rather if not sure walk away.
I don't feel van has been looked after well, no services.

Hi fellas I would upload the report but it ha my details on it.

But oil leak, whistling noise from turbo, mirror indicator has condensation in it.

Central locking doesn't work on rear doors.

Been told bodywork repairs as left side and rear doors have been resprayed lot of filler and variation in paint work.

Only had one service, enterprise print off sheet has displayed 2 services but actually 1 on real paper work.

Looks like van has took a hit on left side as all problems are there.

Hpi did not show van being in accident though.

Defiantly time to walk away and ask for money back they haven’t got a leg to stand on , that price also seams far to high to me , Ime sure you can find something much better than that far cheaper , do you have any friends in the motor trade who could help you out at all ??

Don't understand this ... how can it be a 2014 plate yet registered in June 2016?

If it has an oil leak and problems at that age I'd be wary. Mileage?

just get your cash back , take the report to trading standers after all a oil leek is a mot failure  so is a side repeater thats doesnt shine the right colour just had a 12 plate transit fail for this ,

we have took hire vans back battered to death and all they do is bung them in there own on site work shop to get a quick lick of paint before going to the block , north gate have four fully kitted work shops that they exchange many bits over its cheaper to get them to do it the get your own body shop to do the work and you pay the fine and walk away

, ive seen a 7 week old sprinter sat in there yard that had been on the roof so it was a right off , they were swapping the gear box out of it to go in a sprinter that had 200k on the clock so it could be sold as a runner when going to the block making them 2k extra at the sales at a cost of 5 hours labour nothing else

there just trying to bully you , once you explain to t.s. that oil dropping on a brand new drive from a van good end your business they will be right on side there were so many new laws that came in force for secondhand cars and vans a year ago they havnt a leg to stand on

Thanks Susan.

Very good point about oil leak, can't remember if indicator on left mirror worked but full of condensation.

As said tyres, indicator, minor things but central locking on doors, oil leak on left side.

It's had a clump of some sort on left side.

Makes me laugh van centres email says this is all quite common stuff for age.

My 16 year old ford escort didn't have an oil leak.

As marc stock suggested keep it polite.

Will just email back: Thank you for your email but just to confirm I will. NOT be continuing with purchase.

How does that sound?
Typically salesman they won't take no for an answer ::)roll

Im just glad that i have a good dealer 5 miles away from me , they are up on the prices these days but more importantly i think is that they dont just buy any old rubbish to punt on like lots do these days .

In 2005 i got a 2001  VW T4 with 80k on the clock for just under 6K all in , which i thought was a steal , sure it had seen some grief down one side but had been well repaired , in 10 years of owning this van it cost me nothing other than service items and a cam belt job , I sold it in 2015 for £1400 with 140k on the clock , which was a steal for the new owner , other than it being PINK  ;D

I then went back to the same garage and paid 4800 for my 12 plate Fiorino with 64k on it , since 2015 so far its had 4 injector seals , 4 glow plugs and a clutch kit , sounds bad but as i sort repairs myself its only cost my time and about £250 , probably would have been about 1000 if paying a grease monkey to do it .

The point is unless you have XRay eyes you just dont really know with second hand , it is what it is , a lottery !
I'm so lazy I'm getting tired of it !
