I think you’d have to be crazy to think hot water doesn’t clean better than cold. How much better though? There in lies the difficulty.

On 90% of windows Mayb it makes no difference, but it will allow you to work with more confidence as you know that a scrub and a rinse with hot, and every bit of dirt will be gone. Whereas with cold water, it can be easy to miss a pollen spot, snail trail etc.

If nothing else hot water makes your day more comfortable. Just like a powered reel, or extreme pole. Are they necessary? No, but they are a luxury, and make your day easier.

It’s up you yourself to decide if it justifies the cost.

If you have two dirty cups in the sink with a coffee ring at the bottom, pour a little cold water in one and hot water in the other and notice how the hot water immediately loosens the coffee stain.
Hot water on near freezing glass and cold water on a hot pane of glass on a scorching day causes a thermal shock to the glass,. Very hot water on near freezing glass could possibly run the risk of shattering the glass like pouring boiling water on a windscreen when it's iced up, only idiots who do this run the risk of cracking their windscreen.

We should all know this....

Easy as Pie

Think of all of the four principles (chemical, heat, agitation, time) as four slices of a pie. If you slice the pie evenly, everyone gets the same amount. But, if someone wants a bigger slice, you will have to decrease the size of one or more of the other pieces of the pie.

Here’s how it works in cleaning:

If you have to use little or no chemical, you’ll need to increase time, agitation and/or temperature.
If you can’t use hot water, you will have to use more chemical, more dwell time, or scrub more aggressively.
If you can’t use agitation, you will need more time, heat and/or chemicals. Generally speaking, time is the slice of the pie we want to keep to a minimum. Increasing temperature by using hot water is usually the best way to improve cleaning efficiency and save time. Hot water reduces the amount of chemical you need to clean, suspends more soil, and rinses better.

Hot is so much much better and quicker on gutter and facia cleans.  I saw the difference yesterday. Cold took ages with lots of scrubbing and arm ache. With hot it was one swipe watching the dirt just disappear.

As far as windows are concerned.  They are not cleaned any better with hot. But the frames are.   The windows can save a bit of time on first cleans.   Also quicker to get of bird muck and insect poo.

Following on from the washing up thing.

When using very hot water to do the dishes you notice that within seconds after washing a plate and putting it on the drainer that it is completely dry and clean, the hot water just evaporates off.

This would be great for cleaning windows as there would be less water lying around and less chance of spotting. When washing up in tap water the plates still dry perfectly clean, my tap tds is 180ppm and I have heard that rises when gone through the boiler.

In fairness over the last few years I was in denial about hot.  I have proved myself wrong.

I bit the bullet to keep up or stay ahead of my competition.  I saw a massive increase in hot users over the last 2 years.

It's all down to personal choice though. Cold cleans fine - just less comfortable and more tiring.  Seen for myself the last couple of weeks.

That's probably the most insulting thing you could say to any CIU member!! ;D

I'm pretty sure Ewan was the guy from Tecbuk.

Anyhow... if I did lots of gutter cleaning etc and lots of grubby frames I would probably invest in a on-demand heater- for a "proper" hot water solution. However, for the purpose of total frost protection and more comfortable winter working my immersion heater fits my requirements perfectly.

I agree the immersion route is ideal for stopping freezing but for constant hot water it’s not,no comparison on frames with hot over cold the windows dry far far quicker to the point when you leave the job there’s very little water left on the glass. GrippaTank came and fitted my new charger and mains hook up last week with 2 new batteries, the heater is like new now Ive replaced everything in the cabinet the water is almost too hot now lol battery output is no lower than 12-5 when parked up and working for well over an hour and a half on a job,Drive a couple of miles it charges to over 14volts and seems to take ages to drop below 13.Anyone thinking of going hot I would only recommend GrippaTank they know how to set them up in order for them to work in the most efficient way.
