« on: November 27, 2017, 07:47:17 pm »
Looking to add this to business lads. Sumup seems to be all the range in ireland . €48 to buy terminal and 2.75 transaction fee after that...

Any better alternatives ?

Thanks in advance as ever 👍

I can recommend Sumup as another way to take payment using a mobile card reader. It makes you look more professional taking electronic payments rather than cash or cheques. It's a great bit of kit and easy.

It's a good idea to let customers decide which payment method they prefer.

I use the Sum Up card reader to take payments by card on the road.  Really low rates less than 1.69% with no fixed fee or monthly fee.  Much better and cheaper than paypal. You can also take payments over the phone too.

The card reader can be purchase for £29 reduced from £59 using this link.  You can get a discount of £30 halving the price with this link ( also helps me with referral reward   )

You can swipe cards or use chip and pin option or contactless payments. It's fab.

Once you take payment you then can put the customers email or phone number in the app and it will either text or email the receipt straight away for them. Works a treat.

Just use your own card to test it out when you get it first to see how it works. Just take £1 on your own card

i paid £22 for mine,      when you search for the sumup, your computer will remember this and you will start to get pop ups of deals on sumup card reader,   i was looking on gumtree then there it was pop up, sumup @ special price of £22 + delivery.     Looks good toy to have,    Tested it out for a pound,  took 2p from the £1.
I havent used it yet  After the new year its going in van for those who dont seem to want to pay you.  Make them look like they are chewing a lemon
Window Cleaners with a card reader,  haha.     How things have changed,    ££££££££££ wise.  make more an hour than some trades men.    This is why i love what i do now

I’m afraid I just don’t get it.

A card reader? Why not simply get them to pay by online banking?

If you give customers 10 different ways to pay, some will use all of them, at great inconvenience to you. If you give them just 1 way to pay, then they’ll ALL use it.

I don’t even knock anymore because the chit chat and taking payment takes too long, and is inconvenient for me and the customer. Even if they’re home they get a card.

No way would I be faffing around with a card reader, and certainly not paying extra for the waste of time!

These days if a customer won’t pay online, then they’re not a customer anymore. A hardline, but one I’ve never had to use. The customer asks “how do I pay” you just say “pay online, I’ll post a card with the bank details” and they’ll do it.

Why give them options that are going to waste your time and cost you money?

they mostly do pay online,     if bacs they still forget.     i like to keep all my customers as it stops the opposition creeping in
i like chatting to my customers as its because of them i can go on 3 AI Hollidays a year,  and live in the lifestyle i have now become acustomed to. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D,
this pays itself via Xmas tips while out collecting, £300+ i got last year.      , Maybe because i send xmas cards to all my previous tippers ;) :D ;D ;D,   one upmanship

Many people simply prefer to pay on the day in person. Cash is inconvenient these days; its a risk having it in the van; its a pain in the backside to pay into the bank and people just dont use cash these days.

By offering debit/credit card payments you are giving the customer more purchasing power from you, and you have more selling power to them.

On quite a number of occasions now i have been doing some work and the customer has asked me to quote to do some extras for them; the convenience of being able to plop it on a card, and in some cases where customers simply dont have the money in thier bank accounts to agree to extra work there and then.....well; they can use thier credit card.. id say i have increased these sort of "on a whim, and whilst your at it" jobs by at least 10 percent. Amex MasterCard you name it i accept it and im happy too as its given me more opportunities.

It also makes you look more profesional, its safer, and imo the more you offer to make your custoners lives easier...the better.
