Wanding Technique
« on: June 14, 2006, 10:41:16 am »
As a newbie i only recently learned that  different wanding technique can produce a difference in the overall result, i tend to employ a 1 wet to 4 dry passes ratio, which is sometimes repeated if nessicary, i also try to alter direction should i do a second pass, ie start North South then go east - west.  I use a truckmount without a glide (at the moment), could anybody tell me how to improve my technique or tell me which techniques they use as i cannot think of many other ways of varying what i do.

Many thanks

Ps Assume the pre vacxuum and agitation steps etc have allready occured.

One dry pass is all I need using a portable (Ninja)  Your truckmount can surely do better than that!!

Try getting a turbo dryer

The extra passes are to get more direty water out rather than leave it to dry in the carpet, is there any point doing this?

imo, not really i dont do dry pass s at all, thats with porty,

like i said with a wand with window you can see whats coming up, and it seems to extract no extra water on dry pass s.

i cant see the point in pass s without spray ::)

as for 4 :o

I thought the idea of a truckmount was to speed the job up.

In experiments I have done I do not apear to get up extra water after the first dry pass. But I usually do a second.

Although visibly it may seem like there is no extra water being sucked up on subsequent drying strokes there will be. This is due to the airflow going into the wand picking up moisture as it passes through the carpet pile. It may seem insignificant but does have a marked affect on drying times. You should really be doing one clean pass and 4 drying passes and 2 clean and 6 dry on dirty carpets although people rarely do this.

well said john .
if anyone has the time to experiment regardless of how powerful the vac try a one stroke in a section then two and then a third in different sections and feel the difference 20 minutes and 40 minutes  later. this can also be achieved with angle of pass. if you slightly lower the wand when pulling on a drying stroke it will increase the air flow and allow more moisture to be sucked away.
i have a man who will demonstrate wand technique at the day out
