Black porcelain
« on: September 05, 2017, 06:24:56 pm »
We have a tile and grout floor clean booked in (black tile) followed by a grout recolour.
The tiles are black with a white vein type pattern in
We have carried out a test clean and the customer is happy to proceed.
Is there any thing we can do to give the tile a lift with regards to polishing.
We have a rocky and also have the soft shine pads and polishing powder.
We haven't done many floors for a while but have done kevs training.
Regards Alex

What products did you do the test clean with?
Did you do an acid test?

I'll be honest Kev I didn't carry out a an acid test. Customer said porcelain so went with that (I know presumption is the mother of all.....).   All the tiles have the same recurring pattern in them?  We cleaned with your own tile and grout clean.  Have I got it wrong?

I may be wrong but they look like Nero Maquina Marble Tiles to me or to be more Accurate  Nero Limestone.  TBH they could be Porcelain but to be sure conduct an acid test on them first.  Easy enough if you remember on the course I taught you to use a q tip and some Lemon juice or a little phos in an inconspicuous area. Do it mate and call me with the results or Post back on here or e mail me

Thanks for the reply Kev.
I've carried out an acid and no reaction or etch marks left so presumably it is just porcelain?
Can it be buffed or polished to give it a lift?

Just shows how good at replicating they are getting then with porcelain....... Yes it can be buffed by using miracle Tile Brite Black

As usual Kevin thanks for your help.
Definitely porcelain as around the radiator pipes it hadn't been fitted very well and there was a good cross cut showing.
The grout recolour is a great product and the customer is delighted. However they aren't delighted with the haze I've left behind and I've received a call back.
Am I right in thinking because of the nature of the product it will have to be removed with the epoxy grout remover. The customer has gone away for a week so will the grout recolour be fully cured by then as not to be affected by the removal solution.
With reference to the tile bright black, how is this applied? Any specific pad for the rotary?

Sorry for all the questions kev but I backed away from the hard floors due to several reasons but have got my head back on and actively seeking them out again.
I might even attend the course again as a refresher.

Cheers Alex

I don't know what you have done but it sounds like the wrong way round!  You should have deep cleaned and repolished first then grout coloured.  The Tile Brite is applied with a Natural Hair Pad just like any other powder polish.  Create a yoghurt type mix then polish until dry

We deep cleaned first kev before the recolour the tile bright is an after thought and the customer is undecided whether to proceed.

Yep I realise that mate but the tile brite should have been done after the clean but before the grout colouring.  However it will still probably work if the grout is recessed
