Conny Roofs Inside Cleaning - Help
« on: June 23, 2017, 05:48:27 pm »
So i have been doing lots of Conny Roof Cleans lately with Gardiners Slx using a backpack or not with no nonsense degreaser, flying through jobs making it worthwhile to do.  Last few weeks though several people have asked me to clean internal windows of the conservatory roof.  I have flatly refused, but one customer phoned me this morning and said she would happily pay good money, like up to £100-£150 just to do the inside roof, plus whatever i charge for the outside.  I told her i'd think about it and come over to give her a quote next week.

So first of all, is it worth me doing internal windows on conny roofs?  I'm in no way desperate for the money, happy to charge alot and if i get the job it is a good earner if i dont get it then no bother at all.  Is it difficult to clean internal roofs?  I have never done one before.  I have a gardiners slx pole, also have multi tool from DA, so i'm thinking of getting one of those unger pads, get it damp with a bit of pure water and just clean it that way?  I have no idea though, can somebody explain the best method they have found for cleaning internal windows whether it be conny roof, or for commercial indoors.  Basically i just dont want to be taking on a job though if its going to be too much hassle....  Would you charge more for inside of a roof than you would for outside?  Bearing in mind there is always more dirt on outside.

Genuinely don't know, and really don't want to be faffing about if it's not worth it, however if it is, then i'm prepared to give it a go.  Had about a dozen people ask me to do internal roof cleans this year, potentially throwing away money, can't help but think that if most window cleaners stay clear from this sort of work, i can definitely get away with raising prices if i'm going to do these jobs.

Thoughts pleaseeeeeee  8) ;D 8)

Only way to do a decent job is a mop and squeegee and step ladder...those pads are a waste of time.

I've done quite a few.

If polycarb you can do them with step ladders and some microfibre cloths with some general cleaning fluid like ubik or flash etc.

If glass you can use glass cloths and a good glass cleaner.

But the secret weapon is to use...wait for it.....A KARCHER window vac. Yes indeed. Mop them up and karcher off, very quick and no mess.  This works best of the conny is empty as you will get a few drips  you might need to go back and detail if it's glass but if polycarbonate no real need.

They are neck breakers either way so price well

As above, mop squeegee and step ladder.
Ask the customer to clear the conservatory before you arrive. Lay a cover down to protect the floor.
Pour some degreaser into a spray bottle, spray and wipe the frames as you squeegee the glass.
Easy, though avoid in direct sunlight as it gets extremely hot and the soap dries on the glass within seconds.
Done a standard size con inside yesterday, all frames, glass and windows, about an hour's work.

Hmmm, Mop and Squeegee does sound like the best way of doing it.  Really dont want to be faffing with pads trying a method i have never done.  Atleast with squeegee i know what im doing, clean frames first then glass sounds fairly straight forward, except standing on a step ladder at height looking directly up, il make sure i price well though.  Out of interest what do you charge for inside of conny roofs?  Like what would you price for an hours job cleaning an inside conny roof.  I price all window work at £30-£40 per hour so looking for £50-£60 per hour for something as awkward as roof cleaning inside.

Cheers for the advice

I'm guessing you have tried several times using these pads then?  Do you do a good amount of interior roofs with squeegee.  I've never tried, i can't imagine it can be anything to difficult though as im experienced with trad.

I like the idea of a karcher, but i haven't used one or own one, so for first time think i'd prefer to use good old squeegee, just get the custard to move everything out the way for the drips and that.  Can you squeegee polycarbonate fairly easily?  Never actually tried before....  Neck breakers, yep sounds about right, thats why i want to price high man, just awkward isn't it.

Depends on the state of the job really. The one I cleaned yesterday wasn't that dirty, standard size with easy access. That was £120, approx 2 hours, hour inside hour outside.
Bigger cons or really filthy cons then more.

I try to price per hour, around the £50-£60 mark as you say. After cleaning so many you get an idea of how long the job will take. Having the right tools and a plan of action also helps.

top tip - for all those who sn****r/howl/laugh and deride the archer window vac, it simply can not be beaten for internal conny  glass roof cleans - we use microfibre cloths with white vinegar for spars ( off step ladder ) - if polycarbonate then unger pads are fine

depends on condition and most importantly if they have smoked in it !!

say your ave. conny is 12 ft x 8 ft - victorian style then thats about 1.5 hrs (1 man) so £120.00 + vat if its a smokers then triple it

Ive done a few . Pre-treat if needed, then mop and squeegee from a pole and finish with cloths from stepladder.

I did one a while a go,  not sure of the size but it wasn't that big  . Inside roof plus all plastic and windows + outside roof and all windows. Took me 3hrs 50 mins ( 3hrs 30 mins cleaning, about 20 mins set/pack up , chat + juice ) , the bit that seem to take ages was cleaning all the plastic inside , the dirt in the groves of the plastic was time consuming to clean. Plus , the outside of the connys was pretty green and weeds growing out of the gutters. Quite enjoyed it actually, and was a lot less fatiguing? Than doing a fsg job or a gutter vac job.

mop and squeegee and step ladder like loads have already said.

I avoided them for years but like you got one at a good price and was actually really easy

only thing not already said is do it early in the day before sun is beating down on you and charge more for glass as these have to be perfect for obvious reason  ;)

if going to be doing a few then buy some decent step ladders or a little giant 5 or 6 rung (screwfix do a cheaper version) little giant can be used for getting over locked gates

I did all the internals on these conservatories by hand. Damp soapy cloth and the buff with a dry one. Customer was over the moon with the results.

Just my personal preference, but I wouldn't use a squeegee on the internals as you're prone to dropping dirty water everywhere. It even runs up your armpits if you're not careful.
