Just in the space of three months this summer I have received well over half a dosen emails from people starting up new window cleaning businesses wanting to buy my work.

I am not selling at the moment, is my reply but it hasn't deterred one particular person who has now emailed me 3 times in case I change my mind.

if anyone had time they could make a business just canvassing from scratch a round, then cleaning for 6 months to sort all the messers out, get them all on go cardless/ stripe from the beginning prob get 5 or 6 times the value or poss higher with an excellent rate per hour.

For a lot of areas window cleaning would be getting close to the point where it would be almost impossible to build a decent
well paying round from scratch therefore buying work may be the only option.
Window cleaning has always been  a job where there was risk associated with the reward so tended to put a lot off people off which in turn worked for the shiners willing to do it, WFP has removed the risk so basically what we have now is a job/business that can be achieved with very little upfront expense and anybody can do it.
Supply overtaking demand is never good for the suppliers.

When I moved to Ireland in 2011, a couple of my friends who live here and who are or used to be window cleaners told me I would never make it work as there was not enough demand for residential window cleaners.

I told them I found it hard to believe and told them to watch me. It would take time but I would get there.

It took me 4 years to get to where I considered myself to be established, and now, 6 years after knocking my first door on Irish soil, have work coming out of my ears and it's still coming to me.

My friend who is a windy himself and bought his business still can't believe how I managed to build mine from nothing.

I just smile and tell him that I knew I could do it.

It isnt illegal to walk up to someones door and ask them if they would like a window cleaner. No matter what the so called cold calling policy is, otherwise you wouldn't receive postal vote cards, or correspondence. This no cold calling zone is about as enforceable as speed limits for cheetahs in africa.

Many of the customers i canvassed have a no cold calling sticker on thier door, they dont even remember its on the door.

I completey ignore the no cold calling when door knocking, cant imagine how l would find customers otherwise.

I got stopped once by trading standards and queried this,she told me she would get back to me.
She did and l still have the letter somewhere, it said that as l already had an existing round l am well within my rights to canvass for more work in that area. Dont ask me how it works but l have the letter somewhere to prove.

I also heard that your ok to door canvass as long as whatever your selling(goods/services) is under the price of £45(ish). Not 100% on that though.

I think the cold calling controlled zones are more aimed at rouges, not so much your your honest hard working window cleaner.(as me)

It's the time of year when the usual crowd start window cleaning and claiming benefits - they'll all be gone by October.

Cold calling is not illegal - and unfortunately it's another case of people taking a well meaning guideline and ramping up into hysteria, the no cold calling areas apply to those who door knock that have no local connection to the area or tangible buisness credentials - generally those looking to tarmac your drive etc..
If you have ID - local buisness - registered address - and asking would they like a service of leaflet you can canvass pretty much anywhere

Did have one busybody report me years ago after knocking her door,( I gave her a leaflet ) never heard anything from the police etc...

Canvass at sensible times, be polite, and accept graciously any no answers and move on

Deliver  leaflets first which say (amongst other things) "I will be canvassing in the next few days and hope you will not mind me calling on you".  If it has your contact details they can call and say "Don't call"

It might have something to do with the fact that you stated a few weeks ago that you earn 50k per annum, hardly work any hours, are bored to the point of depression with it and were then told by 8 weekly that you should "easily" be doing 100k!
