Applying chemicals to fascias, soffits, gutters.
« on: June 01, 2017, 05:37:18 pm »
Currently I use my Gardiners backpack to apply degreasers, virosol etc, but I thought of using a high powered kids water pistol (some of these large ones look brilliant). Does anyone else do this? Thought it would be less faffing and more fun, on the smaller jobs.

i dont use anything but pure water/tap water usually (unless their really filthy and then its virosol in a 5l pressure sprayer or sprayed directly on the brush.).

Yeee Haaaa! Actually i'm more curious than serious.
Daz is right and most of the time a good scrub is all that's needed. (I do get my fair share of mingers though). I find that the top of the gutter can be a pain, the underside of the gutter is usually ok ish and the fascia may be ok ish too. The soffit is normally fine. So really I only need to apply a bit of chem to the top of the gutter, in some instances. Also I find Screwfix degreaser gives a nice finish to the job.
Now these latest water guns can shoot liquids at a fair distance (easy gutters on a two storey house) with some accuracy. Every time, I have to drag out the back pack (make sure it's charged) add the extension hose, plug in the pole blah blah blah.
I'm all for speed and whacking on some chems where they are needed and a good 'gun' may save me some time.
So on the one level, I am a professional window cleaner looking to 'spot clean' problem areas in a cost effective and time efficient way.
On another level, I want a gun that's better than the grandchildren have  :'(

It was the first thing I used on my first gutter job. Did a good job.
I now use a 5l pump sprayer, but sometimes doesn't reach well in wind. Water pistol did :)

I used to use a sprayer too, but again, it was a bit hit and miss when it's windy. Now I use the backpack to get the chemical just where I need it. These latest guns look fairly powerful.

Shooting chemicals from a water cannon aint no good idea surely. Due to the force of the water hitting the gutter, most will just bounce//reflect off and hit no end of targets not liking being splashed by chemicals!!

I uses a 5ltr hand pump spray bottle. Cut the ens of and fit a rectus fitting to it. Use an old aluminium extendable pole and run a hose through it. Connect the hose to a spray head and fit at the top of the pole. Then at the other end fit a corresponding rectus fitting.
This is what i do and it easily reaches the gutters and sprays where you want it to and on what you mean to get it on.

Excellent! I shall take my research further.
A bit of internet searching and then off to 'Toys R Us' at the weekend   ;D
Them Grandkids won't know what's hit 'em!
And as for the gutters...I may stick a vid up  ;D

Nathan, I'm disappointed.
With all your SAS gear that you wear, I thought you'd love to get your hands on a gun  ;D

I have always just applied to brush like as already been said!

Works perfectly you get to agitate the virosol in with the bristtles and give the brush a good clean at the same time.

Pumps? Backpacks? Shotguns? Why.........dont get it?
