Sealing question/ observation
« on: June 07, 2006, 06:16:45 pm »
hi All
when i did the resiblock course we were told , if i remember correctly to make sure there was no sand left in the chamfers before sealing , mainly so the roller doesn't pick up the jointing sand. today i saw a drive that had been sealed with acrylic and the chamfers had been left full and the sealant sprayed on thus hardening the sand. it was red block paving and the white of the sand looked great so it gave the apperance that the paving had been grouted. i spoke to the householder and they were delighted with the job. i cant help wondering what the long term effect will be and is it likely that the sand will break down with time . i would think so and this appears to me be a very risky practise. so have any of you guys out ther who do sealaing come across this technique or have any comments it would be interesting to hear them

Regards to all

As you say Ged, as the sand doesn't provide a solid subsrate foundation for the sealant it will break down sooner in these areas. Leading to what can only be described as a mess.
