New pole after Hernia op
« on: May 14, 2017, 07:27:10 pm »
 Okay all.
I'm gonna buy a new pole. Hopefully having hernia open 21st June.
So this is where I am.....I'm currently using a  3 year old 18ft slx and looking to buy the extreme, only for the reason of it being light and helping me recover after the op (I think you get where I'm coming from)
The question is...after reading dazmonds post re another break, should I invest in the extreme which I'm hoping is so light I can work with less strain or not?

8weekly

Do you use a carbon gooseneck and Extreme brush?

You probably won't notice the weight difference much when doing ground floor work. There is a difference but as the pole is already short it's not as noticeable as it is with the bigger poles.
However, you will really notice it when working over connys and the like as the weight of the pole is magnified greatly when it is extended and held at a low angle. So the lighter it is to start with the less weight there is to be magnified.
I use an Xtreme 22 and I really notice the difference in how I feel at the end of the day.

Dazmond spent months defending and pushing windows shut with his extreme, I was shocked when he wrote he had broke 2 or 3.  One of his qualities is  to change his mind like the wind 🤣
I had the mark 2 with the metal bands. 1 of the sections never looked true when I had it, but it worked and never thought anymore of it. I broke after 3 months when I gently pushed a window shut.
I bought a v3 and this is a far better pole. Still too much money but far tougher. It's been in service 9 months now, its worn but ok.
I will buy another extreme pole when a section breaks.
It's by far the lightest pole you can buy and will aid your recovery, but it's fragile. If you can afford it buy one.
Good luck with the op.

As tlwcs, I would say get one. You will notice the difference. Use xtreme brushes, they are excellent, be gentle with it and you will be fine. It's all but cured my dodgy elbows. I have an SLX 22 and it's the best pole ever made but my xtreme 22 suits me even better. Get it and if you don't like it then flog it. Bet you keep it!  ;D

Never had a hernia opp, obviously not fit enough

But few my friends have had over the years

A light pole makes no difference in this area,

Reason I say is I lent a friend my extreme thinking would help him while recovering made no difference what so ever what he used until he had healed, and got his strength back

After about 6-7 weeks his reasonably back to normal using his 22 SLX

I'm an advocate of the extreme pole it's all I'll use now but often it's down to age and age related problems of repetitive issues that mean a lighter pole can help

I did use the carbon gooseneck and light brush but found the cleaning downstairs windows difficult with the gooseneck due to the angle of the brush. Anyone else have this issue?

Is there a short carbon gooseneck available? I'm all residential with no deep ledges and the only available ones I know of are all too long for my work so I am currently using the standard q-loq resineck from Gardiners with an Ultimate brush. It's not the lightest setup, but its close.

Thats right what they've said it's the movement which is the problem, sure a heavier pole Will obviously cause more damage quicker but the cleaning movement is what and does aggravate hernias it did with me cleaning certain windows over roofs etc or stretching. You know when you've got one after a while it feels like someone has got there finger pushed into that particular area of your stomach or groin, when the iguinial one really needs sorting it begins to feel sore rather than just a dull ache. At one point my iguinial one was so sore I actually looked down and expected to see blood but obviously didn't.

For ground floor work buy the clx4. It weighs next to nothing.
Just chant..... Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. It's beats chanting Tory Tory or Labour Labour.

slx will be fine,      be aware of over conny windows etc,  windows were you need to clean at an angle,  handle so the pole isnt bearing body weight on the hernia side,  try not to clean at angles putting strain on your affected area.    can cause pressure on the stitched up tissue,
DO NOT STRETCH UP, fanlights   etc.
Been throught it , had my iguinal hernia,  cut incision,  on sep 30th,    still cautious.   dont rush back,   december / january will be the best time for this opp,    due to weather .     easier to rest up winter months
