Builders window clean - what would you charge?
« on: April 06, 2017, 10:45:49 am »
Morning guys

I've been asked to do a builders clean for a existing customer, normally I would say no but this isn't that big and they aren't that bad at all. Just a few spots of cement on some windows, the rest is just dust.

Can anyone recommend a product which will easily dissolve the cement without Dan against the glass/frames?

I've tried posting pics of the property but can't do it from my phone  :'(

Thanks and hope you're all enjoying the sunshine!

Tom

Sometimes pictures are to big (megabytes etc) to upload. A simple way round that is to get your picture on your phone and then take a screen shot of it. It drastically reduces to size of meg your picture is and then you can upload it easily

Problem with any cement dissolver is you need to give them time to penetrate. It's not a case of spray on then wipe off.
Its far quicker and easier to scrape the cement off the glass with a sharp blade and plenty of fairy.
Then use a low grade wire wool and paint scraper for the frames.
With the scrapers as long as you use the correct technique and scrape at the right angle, the cement will easily come off.

Thanks guys for all your help! So basically use a scraper!

Pics attached. The front two apex's have just a tiny bit of glass in - that's not all glass.

What would you quote for that inside and out, in Berkshire?

Could I use this stuff..? http://acleaningproduct.co.uk/product/speedy-clean-concrete-mortar-dissolver-cleaner-22oz/

Thanks
Tom

Ok can't attach pics at the moment even by screenshot - saying it needs to be a jpeg and it's saving it as a .png...

Will do it later from home.

Bet you all can't wait!

I'd stay well clear of builders cleans, existing customer or not. If it scratches they'll be blaming you and then you got to check your insurance covers you for the glass you're working on. Not worth it IMO.

If you're determined to do it, I'd get a brand new scraper, plenty of soapy water and scrape in one direction only, washing the blade in the bucket after each pass. Any sand in that scraper, even a grain, is gonna scratch.
