Filling trolley from a van mount
« on: April 04, 2017, 06:13:46 pm »
What's the best way . I've always filled it from the tank outlet with a length of hose . But I've just got a new trolley and the it is taller than the van floor so the hose won't work unless I tilt the trolley which is a pain . So is there some pump or anything else to make it a bit easier . Cheers Barry .

Much the same way you would siphon fuel.........put the hose to your mouth and suck  ;) once there is a capillary action and water is freely flowing it should not really be a problem providing the water level in tank is still higher than the trolley.
Try that first and see if it will work..............otherwise you could buy a submersible pump to drop in tank - sure I have read on here in past of people using 12 v whale or bilge pumps for this purpose.

I don't think the lad will fancy sucking on the end of a dirty hose .  ;D. Them pumps . Do you just leave it in the tank and have some hose coming through the lid .? It's far too slow tho 12 litres a minute . That would take 3 minutes to fill the trolley . That's half a semi . He would love it tho even more time to stand about looking at his phone .   :(

More like it with the speed . Bit pricey . So do these pumps live in the tank . Only concern is when he hooks it up to the leisure battery he will have to dis connect the main controller . Leaving me with no water while I am working . Is this right ?

Why not put some massive springs and huge wheels on it

Any particular reason you have to use a trolley, seems a lot of hassle when you could work straight from van mounted tank.

There's  two of us work from the van . One works with 100 metres of hose from the van . The other uses a trolley . We find this the fastest and easiest way to work our round . Just need an easier way to fill the trolley . Used to have a backpack on a sack truck and it would fill easily with some hose from the tank outlet . Now we have a 35 litre trolley .

12v  bilge pump, drop in tank, long wire to cigarette lighter socket, I have a switch in the circuit and it will fill the backpack in under a minute,  put bilge pump into ebay, mine is 1100gph and cost around 12 pounds.

That would do the job . Have I worked that out right . 1100 gallons per hout, is about 80 litres per minute . That is fast . Typical my cig lighter in the van is bust . So is the only way to run it is off the leisure battery and disconnect the main controller and do without water on the  other pole while that fills .

Why can't you just run an extra couple of cables off of the terminals on your leisure battery ? ......you shouldn't need to have to disconnect the controller.  ???

Also the cig  lighter - just because that's broken the socket it goes in may still be live, have you checked  ?

Or just use a fused 12 volt junction box instead. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/sis.html?_nkw=caravan+12+volt+connection+junction+box+fuses
