Varnished wooden floor help
« on: March 28, 2017, 12:59:45 pm »

Some help would be appreciated guys. Mopped a varnished wooden floor as part of a clean yesterday and got a call back today due to purple tinged showing in the kitchen. Rest of the ground floor is fine. I mopes lightly with a weak gp cleaner, dry rinsed with a clean mop and water and towel dried and this is the result?

You must have really good mopping skills the "blooming"  stops in an exact straight line. Looks to me like the varnished wood has been treated with either a wax or acrylic seal and your cleaning solution has  caused a reaction. As long as its left to dry out properly it should go, otherwise you need to strip off the seal.

Thanks for the reply. It seem worse in places and it didn't affect the whole floor. I'm waiting to speak to the vendor to see what was used on the floor as it looks like it has been DIY varnished judging by the marks on the skirts etc, to prepare the house for sale, as is empty an on the market.

The floor is unevenly coloured with previous stains underneath, paint, rubbing etc, if it comes to stripping is it a case of the belt sander or just removing what looks like polyurethane varnish top coat?

I am waiting for a call from flooring specialist but any info I get will prepare me for speaking to the vendor.

Cheers once again.

It looks like they have applied the seal over the varnish so with care you should be able to just remove that.
