A lot of the vehicle content of Gumtree is either bent or completely fake. It's very much like the scams perpetuated on ebay only more so. Auto Trader is still a good advertising venue as it's online, nationwide and looked at by people who actually want to buy a car or van.
thats a sweeping generalisation!how do you know the vehicles are bent or fake?its easy to check a vehicles history these days.i always check out second hand vehicles before buying.
It's not a sweeping generalisation because it starts with the words "a lot".
I have seen far to many ads on both Gumtree and eBay that use either stock pictures or pictures and descriptions taken from cars and vans that have been previously advertised. There are currently about half a dozen different scams running and a number of furious people who see their previously sold vehicles reappearing at a ridiculously low price with usually a different phone number or email and then some drivel about the owner being unavailable but we deliver free for a sizable deposit. It seems to affect a number of specialist vehicles where their value is open to debate.
Ebay know this is going on and do practically nothing to stop it. We've just seen the same 2.8i Capri come up for sale on ebay for the fifth time in 2 months despite the fact it's still with it's original owner!
A lot of people on the forums and in the owners clubs are becoming very angry and have boycotted both eBay and Gumtree for these reasons.
They are not all dodgy and there are some still some bargains out there but the feeling is, tread very carefully.
