Price increase

Hi guys,
Any of you that have implemented a price increase, may I ask how you went about it?
Did you waffle on about price of diesel, insurance and all running costs increasing or did you just pretty much say that's your new price, like it or lump it?

I've tried both approaches over the years and found very little difference.

I feel better in myself having written out an explanation but I'm pretty certain that 99% don't read it.

a little note on chit/invoice/a text or face to face.they wont be happy about it but you have to put them up.this is what i write:

i was going to put the price up a pound(or whatever) from next clean.hope this ok.many thanks.Darren.

if they moan i simply tell them i think im being fair on both them and me going forward. :)

i really dont care whether i lose the job or not.thats the best attitude to have when putting up prices! ;)

They don't care what we're forking out it's about what they have to.
Just tell 'um and they'll take it or leave it. Some might moan but it's their 'right' to.
If they do need to why there's been a price increase then they're too thick to understand the answer.

I explain that the cost of my washing up liquid has increased from 99p to £1 a bottle and therefore, regrettably, I have have no choice but to increase my charges from £12 to £13. Hope that helps.  :)

 Ive knocked some leaflets up, slightly bigger than a business card with a small explanation in case they are not in. But this is because i dont often put my prices up as i get good prices to begin with and so i find this helps. Yet by time i put the prices up, to be honest most of my clients are ready for it themselves.

So even though i have some leaflets incase nobody is in, what i would say is be self confident when doing so. Not with an air of arrogance but simply be confident in yourself as to why you are increasing prices and the service you offer and that in itself goes along way.
However if you do a crap job, no matter how much confidence you have, it wont work  ;D ;D

Just cut and pasted from word and it came out like that!  It works out 4 per sheet A4  (all nicely in line!!)

april is the perfect time to put your prices up with the better weather.winter is now a distant memory and everyones happier and looking forward to spring and summer. :)

All my clients know i dont put my prices up often ( lol said all waffle b4)
But all my newish customers all ask in january at the start of a year if its still the same price. Which would suggest that the average joe expects price increases early on in the year. Or in my case, my books are from the start of a tax year and so price increases as n when i do will occur at begining of a tax yr

That used to be my opinion, not now though.

If you are doing a real price increase, I'm not talking 50p here or £1 there I'm talking a proper increase, 20% accross the board for vat or summat the best time to do it is October, dark nights are coming, if you need to trim your round a bit you do it right before you're going to be most pushed for time.

Seems logical to me and I don't see any reason why the logic doesn't scale down to 50p here or £1 there.

thats the beauty of working for yourself.we can do what we like.

every year i have a review of  my jobs in jan/feb.earmark ones to put up(or dump!) and tell them in march.

i see it as "spring cleaning" my round for the year ahead. :)

No notification as such, just an adjusted price on their ’WINDOWS CLEANED TODAY’ slip through the door.

I always review my work, they go up whenever it feels appropriate. ‘Appropriate' means if I want more money to clean them.

It's the perfect time to put them up , we've just had storm Doris , all custys have been leaving gates unlocked as their windows are a mess , after they've been cleaned , they realise how much they need doing and how much they need us

Well, ive just started letting some know of my price increases and just got my first moan....
A couple in their late 60's who rent out 2 additional properties. Theyve been good customers since ive started 15yr back. Paid on time and paid for their elderly mum who lived over rd till she passed asay just b4 she was 101.
Anyway its been a low price for all those yrs at 7. I just did downstairs which included a conservatory as well. So left them the note as wasnt in, that the price has increased to 10, whilst all my other similar houses are 15+ in this area. (I dont mind this one as they have been great clients)  anyways, hes like;  "thats a jump nath, from 7 to 10 bla bla bla etc"
I remind them for yrs how theyve maintained a low price and what others are paying and suggest that obviously its upto them if wish to continue.  They say yes hapoy to continue but just letting you know we're not happy.

Glad i only have a few customers who ive let keep a low price due to supposedly being a good client. As this is going to be a fun month

i put a £12 job up to £15 yesterday no problem.most are £1 though!

what gets me is some customers say "you only put them up last year!"err...no!(it was 2014!3 YEARS AGO!!)that shuts them up! ;) ;)

What annoys me is when ones moan and then like today, ive just gone picked up 3 recommendations at £10 quid a pop for less than ten mins of work and no quibble at price.
