i have just taken all my fan jets out of my poles for this winter. The block and freeze up to much  this cold weather. The other reason anyone also thinking this way.

ive never bin a fan of fan jets i find u cant be accurate when rincing them problem windows i love my quad jets good rince but hardly any splash back

They do freeze up quicker than pensil jets

Mine haven't freezed up yet this year, but there hasn't been that bad cold down here yet, compared to years ago
or up north where it can be colder during the day than down south

If you want to lose jobs or do a bad job I always say use fans,they make a mess and put water where it's not wanted. In the past years ago have had people say are you jet washing my windows now,They are more suited to big showroom type glass or weatherboard or gutter was downs imo.

I've never had a fan jet freeze up on me yet.  Also never had a problem with the quality of the clean using them either. Mind I am a pro or like to think I am sort of 

The main advantage for me why I use them is that fan jets are much better and quicker when rinsing  hydrophobic glass than 2 standard pencil jets as this vid shows. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SORg3AQ8nw

I didn't use fans for years because of what I was told, and they was pretty much the problems you describe finding. But I gotta be honest, since I decided to give them a try I've never had a problem with this at all. I have vents on nearly all the windows I clean and I run with my controller at 80%.
I don't like the ones that virtually vaporise the water, as I find them counter productive as most of the water flies off down the street in a cloud of vapour when I want it on the glass. I just use the plain old Gardiner reds. I keep spares on hand in case I break one, as some report they break easily, but I haven't broken one yet.

I found the same , i tried the ones from spraytips that people rave about but the spray was too fine , i use the gardiner ones and love them .

I use the extreme brushes and found there not well suited for fan jets. Can be prone to catch a frame
 so I've been inserting them flush with plastic brush head
it's simple I use a wood hole cutting drill bit size  11ml, counter sink between two existing holes to depth if fan jets push it in, sits in a really good position for cleaning

What fan jets you used?
Used loads and Gardiner are the best. If pump isn't on high, its like pencil jets anyway.
Cant understand your problem.

They were Gardiner's they do what it says on th tin but imo fans in general are not accurate enough,I certainly wouldn't let a newbie use them.

You have a good point there NWH. I don't think I would recommend them to a wfp beginner either tbh. I cut my wfp teeth on pencils for quite some time before I tried fans but they are my favorites now. For a while I had both fitted to my brushes but not now. I just go with fans every time

Depends I've just trained a newbie, never window cleaned before
started back in November 2016 he only does two days for me and two days for a friend from December

I started him with fan jets right from beginning and now his absolutely fine, I've been very harsh with training process, my wife says I'm bit strict

His just now working on finding properties and improving his English

I guess if you didn't have some watching over your method it would be less forgiving with fan jets but it's not unachievable
